LAST WEEK
Seton Hall won a pair of road BIG EAST Conference matches last week. On Friday, the Pirates swept Connecticut in Storrs. On Saturday, they took down Providence in four sets to improve to 7-7 in BIG EAST play.

Graduate student Madeline Matheny (Wilmington, Del.) had a match-high 12 kills, while both Bianca Bucciarelli (Carate Brianza, Italy) and Taylor Jakubowski (Lake in the Hills, Ill.) nearly had double-doubles as the Pirates swept Connecticut, 3-0 (25-18, 27-25, 25-21) on Friday. Matheny had 12 kills to go with five digs and two blocks. Bucciarelli notched nine kills and a team-high 11 digs, while Jakubowski tallied 13 assists and nine digs.

Bucciarelli had a team-high 11 kills and both Jakubowski and Matheny collected double-doubles as the Pirates downed Providence, 3-1 (25-23, 25-23, 16-25, 25-12), on Saturday. Bucciarelli had 11 kills, only two attack errors, seven digs, two aces and two blocks in a strong all-around effort. Matheny had 10 kills and 11 digs, while Jakubowski tallied a team-high 16 assists with 10 digs.

For her efforts last week, Asli Subasili (Tekirdag, Turkey) was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for a second-straight week.

PLAYOFF RACE
Seton Hall finds itself in seventh place in the BIG EAST standings. The top six teams in the final standings will qualify for the BIG EAST Tournament.

1. Creighton (12-2)
Marquette (12-2)
St. John's (12-2)
4. Xavier (9-5)
5. Villanova (7-7)
SETON HALL (7-7)
7. DePaul (6-8)

Seton Hall will face DePaul in Chicago on Nov. 17.

SCOUTING ST. JOHN'S
On Wednesday, Seton Hall and St. John's will resume their lengthy rivalry. St. John's currently owns a slim 21-19 advantage in the all-time series. Earlier this season, the Red Storm defeated the Pirates in four sets in Queens.

Senior Jenna Walsh (Foothill Ranch, Calif.) had a match-high 14 kills, but The Hall fell in four sets at St. John's, 3-1 (25-18, 18-25, 17-25, 23-25), on Sept. 27 in Queens. The Hall came out strong and won the first set, but St. John's rallied to win the last three.

Walsh had 14 kills, only three attack errors and a team-best .344 attack percentage. Bucciarelli had 12 kills, eight digs and three blocks.

St. John's enters Wednesday's contest with a 20-6 overall record and a 12-2 mark in BIG EAST play, which is tied for the conference lead. The Red Storm have won nine of their last 10 matches and four straight. Their last loss was a four-set setback at Villanova on Oct. 21. Last weekend, The Hall swept both Providence and Connecticut on the road.

SCOUTING CREIGHTON
Seton Hall and Creighton will lock up on Sunday for the 22nd time in history. The Bluejays have utterly dominated the series recently having won the last 17 matches. In fact, Creighton hasn't dropped a single set in the series since 2015, that's 47 consecutive set victories over Seton Hall.

Junior Anna Holland (Waukesha, Wis.) collected a season-high 20 digs, but The Hall fell at No. 16 Creighton, 3-0 (13-25, 14-25, 14-25), on Oct. 1. Creighton looked every bit the 16th-ranked team in the country, committing only six attack errors for the entire match. The Pirates' defense looked up to the challenge, but the Bluejays offensive efficiency was too much to overcome.

Holland was terrific defensively for The Hall, collecting 20 digs, the highest output for any Pirate this season. Matheny led the offense with eight kills.

Creighton enters the weekend ranked 15th in the nation with a 21-4 record overall and a 12-2 mark in BIG EAST play, which is tied with St. John's and Marquette for the conference lead. The Bluejays have won nine straight matches and 27 consecutive sets since being swept by Marquette on Oct 6. Most impressively, they're coming off a sweep of the Golden Eagles in Omaha on Sunday.

UP NEXT
Next week, The Hall will play two final regular season matches on the road. The Pirates will travel to DePaul on Nov. 17, which could have serious BIG EAST Tournament implications, followed by a trip to Milwaukee against Marquette on Nov. 18.
