Seton Hall All-Time vs. the Gaels: Seton Hall leads, 15-0
Last Meeting:
Seton Hall 89, Iona 37 (F) – December 8, 2019 (Hynes Center)

AGAINST IONA
Seton Hall has dominated the all-time series against the Gaels, owning a 15-0 record. The Pirates routed Iona in their last meeting, an 89-37 victory in New Rochelle on Dec. 8, 2019. The Hall last hosted the Gaels on Nov. 21, 2006, which resulted in a 75-50 victory for the Pirates.

SCOUTING IONA
Iona is coming off a strong 2022-23 season, which featured a 26-7 final record and an 18-2 mark in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. The Gaels easily won the MAAC Tournament title and qualified for the NCAA Tournament before falling in the opening round to third-seeded Duke. Juana Camilion was named MAAC Player of the Year and MAAC Defensive Player of the Year.

Head coach Angelika Szumilo enters her first season for the Maroon & Gold, after four years at Fairleigh Dickinson. The Knights owned a 72-45 record during Szumilo's tenure and captured back-to-back Northeast Conference regular season titles in 2021-22 and 2022-23.

This year, the Gaels were picked to finish seventh in the 11-team league according to the preseason coaches' poll. The Gaels return seven players from the championship squad including top returning scorers in graduate Natalia Otkhmezuri, junior Judith Gomez and sophomore Noa Givon. Iona welcomes four transfers including graduate student Sierra DeAngelo and junior Ella Fajardo, two former players for Szumilo at FDU. Five first-year players will make their Iona debut this season.

UP NEXT
Seton Hall will next return to action when it travels to Columbia for a non-conference game on Friday, Nov. 10. Tip time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. The contest will be available on ESPN+. Joe Matthews and Judaea Ingram will describe the action for WSOU FM.
