Sophomore Savannah Catalon (Mansfield, Texas) scored a game-high 22 points as the Pirates routed Jefferson, 87-61, in exhibition action on Saturday in Walsh Gym.
After starting the game 1-for-9 from three-point range, The Hall shot 12-for-26 the rest of the way, including five made three-pointers by Catalon and five more from Seton Hall newcomer Nicole Melious (Staten Island, N.Y.). The Pirates led wire-to-wire in this one, holding a 28-point lead at the half. Graduate students Yaya Lops (Stamford, Conn.) and Faith Masonius (Spring Lake, N.J.) scored 11 points apiece. Lops also added a team-best six rebounds and two blocks. Masonius had four rebounds and six assists.

AGAINST WAGNER
Seton Hall and Wagner will meet for the 13th time in history with the Pirates having won 10 of the prior 12 contests. The teams haven't met since The Hall's 70-62 victory in Walsh Gym on Dec. 21, 2021. The Pirates have won six in a row against the Seahawks. It's the second time The Hall has opened the season with Wagner.
SCOUTING WAGNER
Wagner is coming off a 7-21 season a year ago, which included a 4-12 mark in Northeast Conference play. After seven consecutive losses, Wagner's season came to an end on a bright note with a 79-65 victory over Merrimack in the regular season finale.
Graduate student Taleah Washington leads all-returners in points per game (9.2) after appearing in 25 games, 22 of which were starts, for the Seahawks, logging 34.9 minutes per contest. The District Heights, MD native also averaged 4.3 rebounds per game, 3.8 assists per game, and 1.3 steals per game during last season's campaign, highlighted by a 29-point showing against LIU on January 8.
This year, the Seahawks were picked to finish sixth in the nine-team league according to the preseason coaches' poll. Washington was named one of five student-athletes on the 2024-25 Preseason All-NEC Women's Basketball Team. Wagner added six transfers and two freshmen to its 2024-25 roster.
