• The Seton Hall baseball team opens the 2025 season this weekend at the prestigious MLB Desert Invitational in Arizona from Feb. 14-16.
• The Pirates' Friday and Sunday games will be streamed on MLB.com and their Saturday contest against Austin Peay will be broadcast live on MLB Network.
• After a 2023 season where The Hall went 31-24 overall and 13-8 in the BIG EAST, qualified for the conference tournament and its staff was named BIG EAST Coaching Staff of the Year, the Pirates had a down year in 2024 and will look to bounce back in 2025.
• The Pirates return All-BIG EAST First Team pitcher Ryan Reich, who led the BIG EAST with 89 strikeouts and finished with the second-most strikeouts (51) and the third-lowest opponent's batting average (.194) in conference play.
• His 89 strikeouts were the most for a Seton Hall pitcher since 2014.
• Six of Reich's seven starts in league play went at least five innings, including a career-best outing against Georgetown on April 6 when he struck out a career-high 13 batters in seven innings of work.
• Reich and the Pirates' Friday starter Dan Frontera (39 app., 24 GS, 6-12) appeared on D1Baseball.com's list of the top 150 starting pitchers in the country.
• D1Baseball.com also tabbed freshman right-handed pitcher Stephen BIG EAST Preseason Freshman of the Year.
• An America East All-Rookie Team selection at NJIT last season, sophomore outfielder AJ Soldra was named Best Transfer in the BIG EAST by Baseball America.
• Seton Hall is 1-4 all-time against San Diego State and 1-0 against New Mexico.
• Head coach Rob Sheppard enters his 22nd season at the helm of his alma mater with a record of 543-528 and 3.
• His nephew, Ty Blankmeyer, is also in the field at the MLB Desert Invitational as an assistant coach at Vanderbilt.

Watched a good amount of game. SD St a decent team not great. The Hall bats looked good through most of the game. So that was s positive. The pitching could not hold the lead midway through game. That's a rough start with your top pitchers available. Hall go down 16-11 in the opener.

Baseball Team beat Austin Peay 15-3 today. Face U New Mexico on Sunday. Bats are off to a good start in the 2025 Campaign.

Team looked good. They obviously hit the crap out of the ball but I liked their baserunning, defense and approach at the plate.

Their ace pitcher Reich was solid and they brought freshman Stephen Curry in who looked tough, showed good stuff and mound presence for a guy in his college debut.

They have the same issue as basketball.....losing the kids they develop in the Portal.

Offense Erupts in 15-3 Rout of Austin Peay​

PHOENIX – Sophomore Aiden Robbins (Yardley, Pa.) led an offensive onslaught that featured 15 runs and 16 hits as the Seton Hall baseball team defeated Austin Peay, 15-3, in seven innings at the Desert Invitational on Saturday for its first victory of the 2025 season.

The Pirates fell behind after an Austin Peay solo home run in the first inning, but exploded for six runs in the bottom of the second and never looked back.

Robbins went 4-for-5, a double, a triple, four runs scored and four RBIs. Marco Ali (Old Westbury, N.Y.) and Jimmy Brennan (Newton, N.J.) also reached base four times. Ali was 3-for-4 with a walk and three RBIs, while Brennan was 3-for-3 with a walk, a double and three RBIs. Ryan Frontera (Middletown, N.J.) was 3-for-5 with a double and two RBIs as batters two through five in the order combined for 13 hits and 12 RBIs.

THE STORY:
Trailing 1-0, The Hall broke out in the bottom of the second inning. After the Governors walked in the tying run, Robbins scorched a shot to third, which the Austin Peay third baseman knocked down, but he couldn't deliver an accurate throw to first. Kevin Milewski (Wallingford, Conn.) scored the go-ahead run and Tommy Manzo (Ramsey, N.J.) came in on the throwing error to give Seton Hall a 3-1 lead. Brennan followed with an RBI single, and after a Frontera single, a Nick Ferri (Flemington, N.J.) walk brought in run No. 5 for The Hall. Finally, Milewski beat out a dribbler down the third-base line to give the Pirates a 6-1 lead.

In the bottom of the third, The Hall tacked on two more runs on a run-scoring fielder's choice by Robbins followed by an RBI single by Brennan to put the Pirates on top, 8-1.

After Austin Peay got a pair of runs back, Robbins and Brennan went back to work in the sixth. With one out, Robbins delivered an RBI triple to the gap in right-center field to extend the Pirates' lead to 9-3. Brennan followed with a hard double into the left field corner to plate Robbins with the 10th Seton Hall run.

The Hall finished with five more runs in the sixth inning to put the game away.

THE NUMBERS:

• Seton Hall out-hit Austin Peay, 16-to-5.
• Austin Peay committed two errors, while the Pirates committed one.
• Seton Hall left nine men on base, while Austin Peay left five.
• The Pirates were 9-for-17 with runners in scoring position, but the Governors were 0-for-5.
• Robbins was 4-for-5 with a triple, a double, a stolen base, four runs scored and four RBIs.
• Brennan was 3-for-3 with a double, a walk, two runs scored and three RBIs.
• Ali was 3-for-4 with a walk, two runs scored and three RBIs.
• Frontera was 3-for-5 with to RBIs.
• Seton Hall starter Ryan Reich (Selinsgrove, Pa.) allowed only two hits and one run over four innings with three walks and five strikeouts.
• Freshman Stephen Curry (New Market, Md.) made his collegiate debut and earned the win with three innings of relief allowing two runs, walking none and striking out four.

THE NOTES:

• Seton Hall improves to 1-1 on the young season, while Austin Peay falls to 0-2.
• This was the first-ever meeting with Austin Peay.
