Seven different Pirates drove in a run across the two games, including Perez who had four RBI over the doubleheader. Olivia Gilbert (Johnston, R.I.) went 5-for-7 with two doubles and three RBI in the two games.

SCOUTING GEORGETOWN (5-16, 1-2)
  • The Hoyas opened BIG EAST play last weekend at home against Villanova, winning the opener before dropping the final two games.
  • Most recently, Georgetown defeated Hampton, 4-2, in non-conference action on Wednesday.
  • This will be Georgetown's first trip to South Orange since Apr. 27-28, 2019, a series in which the Pirates took two out of three.
  • Offensively, the Hoyas are led by Kayla Dunn and her team-leading .370 batting average. Cameron Kondo provides the power for the Georgetown lineup with a team-best five home runs this season.
  • Seton Hall and Georgetown have met 33 times previously, with the Pirates holding a 21-12 edge in the series. The Pirates have won four of the last five meetings.
NEWS & NOTES
  • Seton Hall's nine-run inning on Wednesday against Manhattan was its most in one frame since a 10-run rally in the fifth inning against Army on March 6, 2020.
  • The Pirates collected 24 hits across Wednesday's doubleheader, their most in a double dip since banging out 28 hits against UMBC and Saint Joseph's on Feb. 20, 2022.
  • Kelsey Carr was named BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week for her performance on Sunday at UConn in which she struck out a career-high 11 batters and allowed just one run in a complete game win.
  • The Pirates have received BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week honors in back-to-back weeks, as Shelby Smith (Friendswood, Texas) shared the honor the week prior after striking out 24 batters over two appearances against North Dakota and Texas Tech. Smith was the first Pirate hurler since at least 2016 to have back-to-back appearances with double digit strikeouts.
  • Seton Hall's pitching has been the story so far this season. The team's 2.66 ERA ranks second-best among BIG EAST staffs. Carr's 1.59 ERA is the lowest among BIG EAST hurlers.
  • Carr has allowed just one run over her last 12.1 inning of work.
  • Shelby Smith enters Friday with 270 career strikeouts to her name, just 30 shy of 300 for her career. She would become the seventh Pirate pitcher to reach 300 strikeouts and the first to reach the milestone since Reganne Camp in 2020.
  • Abby Wingo (Portland, Ore.) tallied her 100th career base hit on March 4 against Texas Tech.
  • Taylor Hill (Little Falls, N.J.) hit her fourth home run of the season on March 5 against Rutgers, her 14th game of the season. During Hill's freshman season it took her 31 games before she hit her fourth homer.
  • Hill has reached base in 18 of the 19 games this season, including a 14-game on-base streak to open the season.
  • Seton Hall's game against Rutgers on March 5 was its third extra innings game so far this season, already nearly matching its total of four such games from the 2022 season.

South Orange, N.J. – Kelsey Carr (Ridgewood, N.Y.) went the distance in the circle and hit what proved to be the game-winning home run as Seton Hall defeated Georgetown, 4-2, in the Pirates' BIG EAST home opener on Friday afternoon. The win brings the Pirates up to .500 in the early stages of conference play.

How it Happened
Carr was able to cruise through the top of the first in the circle, and her offense immediately rewarded her with some run support. After the first three batters reached base safely, Abby Wingo (Portland, Ore.) knocked home the first run of the day on an RBI single to bring home Taylor Hill (Little Falls, N.J.).

In the third, Carr helped out her own cause at the plate. After Lela Allen (Phoenix, Ariz.) was hit by a pitch to open the frame, Carr lined a two-run home run over the wall in left-center field to extend the lead to 3-0.

Georgetown got one run back in the fifth on an RBI double, but the Pirates quickly answered in the bottom half of the inning. With one out, Wingo launched a long home run to right field to push the lead for The Hall back up to three.

The Hoyas played long ball themselves in the sixth as Mae Forshey hit one over the wall in left to make it 4-2. However, that was as close as Georgetown would get in the later stages, as Carr was able to strand a pair of runners in the sixth and set down the side in order in the seventh to preserve the win.

Notes & Numbers

South Orange, N.J. – Olivia Gilbert (Johnston, R.I.) hit a pair of home runs on the day and Shelby Smith (Friendswood, Texas) slammed the door shut in the seventh inning of game one as the Pirates split their Saturday doubleheader with Georgetown. Seton Hall took the win in game one, 4-3, before the Hoyas took a 10-1 victory in game two.

Game 1: Seton Hall 4, Georgetown 3
How it Happened

  • Georgetown got on the board early, plating two runs in the first against Smith to claim a 2-0 lead.
  • The Pirates threatened to score in both the second and third innings but were held off the scoreboard. It wasn't until the fourth inning when the Pirates were able to break through.
  • Gilbert led off the fourth with a home run to right center, followed later in the inning by a game-tying single by Hannah Alexander (Wrightstown, N.J.). Next, Ashly Colonnetta (Cypress, Texas) would deliver the Pirates the lead with an infield single.
  • Smith would add a much needed insurance run in the fifth, as her single to center was bobbled by the centerfielder which allowed Abby Wingo (Portland, Ore.) to score all the way from first.
  • Georgetown got a run back in the sixth, but was down to its final out with the bases empty in the seventh. After three straight Hoyas reached base with two outs, Smith was able to strike out Mae Forshey on three pitches to end the game.
Notes & Numbers
  • This marked the second straight game in which the winning pitcher also knocked in the game-winning run. On Friday, KELSEY CARR's home run proved to be the game-winner.
  • Taylor Hill (Little Falls, N.J.) picked up her seventh multi-hit game of the season.
  • This was the Pirates' seventh game so far this season that was decided by one run, and their 11th game that was decided by two runs or less.
  • The Pirates outhit the Hoyas, 9-4.
Game 2: Georgetown 10, Seton Hall 1
How it Happened

  • Both starters had strong outings, as Carr went the first three innings for the Pirates allowing just one earned run.

  • Georgetown added four more runs in the seventh to make it a 10-0 lead.
  • Gilbert hit her second home run of the doubleheader to lead off the bottom of the seventh.
