MILWAUKEE, Wis. — In a late-night BIG EAST clash, the Seton Hall men's basketball team fell to No. 16 Marquette, 80-56.
The Golden Eagles (20-6, 11-4 BIG EAST) shot 40.7% from beyond the arc with three double-digit scorers, while the Pirates (7-19, 2-13 BIG EAST) had one player in double digits, in addition to shooting 25.0% from three.
How It Happened
After a scoreless first minute in Milwaukee, Isaiah Coleman drew first blood for the Pirates from three, putting The Hall up 3-0. Marquette responded with their own three-pointer the next possession and the two sides began trading blows. A Prince Aligbe jumper would help the Pirates go in front 7-5 with 16:41 remaining in the half, but the Golden Eagles once again responded to tie things up at 7-7.
In the aftermath of this BIG EAST tussle's early volleys, Marquette went on a 7-to-0 run to jump out in front 14-7 as the clock hit 13 minutes remaining. As the momentum shifted to the Golden Eagles, Scotty Middleton and Dylan Addae-Wusu fought to wrangle momentum back to the Pirates. Despite a layup from Coleman as the buzzer expired in the first half, Seton Hall entered the break down 17, 40-23.
The Pirates' offense remained stuck in neutral during opening minutes of the second half, but Addae-Wusu eventually broke through to get the Pirates on the board. Middleton, Coleman and Gus Yalden would add to the Pirates' offensive tally in the second half, but the nationally-ranked Golden Eagles proved to be too much for The Hall on the night. By the time the final buzzer sounded, Marquette outscored Seton Hall in the second half 40-to-33, ending the game in a 80-56 Pirates loss.
