NOTES YOU NEED TO KNOW
  • The Seton Hall men's basketball team will play its annual contest on its South Orange campus on Saturday as the Pirates play host to FDU at 4 p.m. inside historic Walsh Gymnasium.
  • The Pirates are coming off of its 14th consecutive win a home opener as they topped Saint Peter's, 70-59, at Prudential Center.
  • The Hall was paced by Kadary Richmond's stellar line of 18 points, seven assists, six rebounds and six steals, making him the first Pirate since Eugene Harvey to have at least 18, six and six when Harvey did it against LIU on Nov. 28, 2009.
  • The Pirates are 427-143 all-time inside Walsh Gym and have won 28 straight regular season games against non-conference opponents dating back to 1989.
  • The Hall has won 28 of its last 29 games in Walsh with its last loss coming against St. John's on January 24, 2022 in a rare BIG EAST game that was held on campus.
  • The last team that visited Walsh Gym coming off of an NCAA Tournament season was also FDU and that came on Nov. 11, 2016.
  • The last team that visited Walsh Gym coming off of a win in the NCAA Tournament the previous season was Syracuse on Jan. 16, 1985.
  • Seton Hall has won its last six games against fellow New Jersey institutions with its last loss coming on Dec. 14, 2019 against Rutgers in the Garden State Hardwood Classic.
  • Head coach Shaheen Holloway is 15-9 all-time against Garden State foes.
  • Holloway's first season leading his alma mater was, statistically speaking, the best in program history among first-year head coaches:
Most WinsMost BIG EAST Wins
1. Shaheen Holloway (2022-23) - 171. Shaheen Holloway (2022-23) - 17
2. George Blaney (1994-95) - 162. Tommy Amaker - 9
3. Tommy Amaker (1997-98) - 153. George Blaney - 7
Richie Regan (1960-61) - 15Kevin Willard (2010-11) - 7
  • Holloway's six true road wins were the most for a first-year head coach at Seton Hall since Bill Raftery registered five road wins in 1970-71.
  • Holloway was the first first-year head coach to lead Seton Hall to a postseason berth since Tommy Amaker in 1998-99, Holloway's junior season, when the Pirates earned a trip to the NIT.
  • Despite starting 0-3 in BIG EAST play, Holloway took a group of four returners and five newcomers and guided The Hall to a .500 record in league play for the eighth consecutive season.
  • Holloway put his stamp on the program in his first season and it started, of course, on the defensive end of the floor where The Hall held opponents to 65.1 points per game, its lowest total since 2011-12 when the Pirates allowed 63.8 ppg.
  • Seton Hall held 11 teams under 60 points last season, its most since also holding 11 teams under 60 in 2012-13.
  • Seton Hall finished second in the BIG EAST and in the top 70 nationally in scoring defense (65.1 ppg), field goal percentage defense (41.5 percent), three-point field goal percentage defense (31.8 percent) and steals (8.2 steals per game).
  • Seton Hall finished 20th in KenPom's adjusted defensive efficiency ranking.
  • After finishing with 10 BIG EAST victories last season, Seton Hall has won 10 or more BIG EAST games seven times since the league realigned in 2013-14, which is tied for the third most in the conference
