Stony Brook, N.Y. — The Seton Hall baseball team used a five-run eighth inning to take a late lead and Daniel Frontera came with four strong innings of relief to earn the victory on the mound as the Pirates defeated Stony Brook, 13-10, in the rubber game of a three-game series on Sunday afternoon.

Kevin Milewski homered for the third consecutive game, smacking a three-run home run in the eighth that put the Pirates in the lead for good. Marco Ali matched his career high with four hits and Frontera allowed one run in four innings while allowing no walks and striking out four.

How It Happened

With one out in the top of the first inning, Ali hit a solo home run to open the game's scoring. Stony Brook answered with two runs in the home half to take a 2-1 lead but the Pirates quickly tied the score in the top of the second where Casey Cumiskey's infield single scored Magnus Kreiger.

Stony Brook led 5-2 entering the top of the fourth inning where the Pirates posted a crooked number. A two-run single from AJ Soldra made it a 5-4 ball game before another two-run base hit, this time off the bat of Jimmy Brennan, put The Hall back in front, 6-5. A sacrifice fly from Milewski extended the Pirates' lead to 7-5.

Pirate pitching couldn't keep Stony Brook off the board, however, as the Seawolves pushed across three runs in the bottom of the fourth and another run in the bottom of the fifth that put them back in front once again, 9-7. Daniel Frontera entered the game in the bottom of the sixth and he tossed the first scoreless frame of the game for the Pirates. He retired the side in the seventh that set the stage for Seton Hall's second five-run inning of the game.

Two runs came across as a field error by Stony Brook's right fielder allowed The Hall to tie the score at 9-9. With two on and two outs, Milewski stepped to the plate and crushed a three-run blast over the fence in left field that gave the Pirates a 12-9 lead. Stony Brook scratched a run across in the home half but Frontera was able to work around trouble after that. Another Seawolves error in the top of the ninth put the score at 13-10 in favor of The Hall and Frontera was able to close the door in the ninth to seal the victory.
