Remember the old days when you'd have to sit out not 1 but 2 years transferring within conference..I will never enjoy seeing guys transfer in conference
Youāll never get a player in that scenario. No player is going to sign a contract at their lowest value and not give themselves an out if they can attract a major offer.are multi year contracts illegal? We need to have 3 year contracts with buyout clauses if the player decides to transfer.
Somebody would sign it, just no one that you'd want.Youāll never get a player in that scenario. No player is going to sign a contract at their lowest value and not give themselves an out if they can attract a major offer.
Why? Weāre supposed to build a ābrandā but everything from the program and from the powers in the know here keep it silent?Relax.
i mean, most of these kids are getting overpaid. and the ones that know it might lock that in.Somebody would sign it, just no one that you'd want.
I would like to see a system that gives something back to the school who loses a player in the portal. For all the low and mid-majors ( and weak HMs) who develop a player then lose him to a richer school, some money should be paid to them.are multi year contracts illegal? We need to have 3 year contracts with buyout clauses if the player decides to transfer.
Exactly. As we discussed on the Trove, St. Johnās got to the second week of the tournament and they are already signing players. Shaheen knew back in November. He needed to do a major reload. Yetā¦..The big dogs in our league are getting their guys early. They have money, a plan, and they take the swing. A 4-5 of Hopkins and Zuby is top level.
I wonder if Sha has any intention of giving a guy more than $1M even. Thereās a reluctance there but weāll see. Pull the trigger. We need at least a pair of players over that mark to really make an impact.
The returning 6 players (as of now) wonāt even be $1M combined of a supposed $5M budget (Dual, Middleton, Aligbe, Erheriene, Felton, Okorafor).
The only players id take a shot on are godswill and felton as they are freshman and wont cost much. Bigs are hard to find and godswill is athletic, moves well and making strides as a pf, not center. Price, dual and middleton need to be 2nd team off the bench. I do not wana see price, middleton and dual start at allThe big dogs in our league are getting their guys early. St. John's didnt get to the second week of the tournament, only the second round.Exactly. As we discussed on the Trove, St. Johnās got to the second week of the tournament and they are already signing players. Shaheen knew back in November. He needed to do a major reload. Yetā¦..
Most likely they had an offer and probably agreement well before the season endedRick Pitino understands the importance of keeping his program in the news in a positive way and just look how quickly after the regular season he struck with a quality commitment from an in - conference player .
It doesnāt alter the simple truth that Rick got his player quickly and weāre still out in the cold .Most likely they had an offer and probably agreement well before the season ended
Correct, thanksSt. John's didnt get to the second week of the tournament, only the second round.
It doesn't alter the truth, but it explains that truth. Guy was going back to Cooley or to SJU. Period. It doesnāt alter the simple truth that Rick got his player quickly and weāre still out in the cold .
Not having a GM who is working the transfer scene 24/7, 365 in this NIL era is plain stupidity.at this point, does it matter if you are a good coach? you have e to be a good GM on top of all the coach responsibilities.
Agree. You can't have your coach handling the team and the GM function. But I would add that this hire has to be smart, connected and visionary.I'm afraid we would hire someone on the cheap who would not make a difference. Not having a GM who is working the transfer scene 24/7, 365 in this NIL era is plain stupidity.
Seton Hall should follow the Pitino model. He made the perfect hire in my opinion.Agree.You can't have your coach handling the team and the GM function. But I would add that this hire has to be smart, connected and visionary.I'm afraid we would hire someone on the cheap who would not make a difference.
Pitino is naturally wired to succeed in this NIL era.He wants to win and is smart and well connected. He's also not afraid to run some red lights. There are no rules right now.Seton Hall should follow the Pitino model. He made the perfect hire in my opinion.
His GM is a former ace recruiter for a Power 4 Conference who worked as an agent before returning to the college game. Those guys have the connections and inside knowledge of the recruiting/free agent landscape to be highly successful in this burgeoning role.
That he is a graduate of the school and a former assistant coach is an extra bonus as he knows how to work the major donors/power players.
I donāt care about the title, but I would think having the head coach negotiating with agents and handlers is not a good thing.Baffles me people donāt think a GM would be useful .
I donāt think anyone disagrees, but itās all so brand new that you also have to hire the right person. If it were all so simple, everyone would have a GM. But right now, few do.Baffles me people donāt think a GM would be useful .
My guess is most P5 basketball conferences have this resource. It may not be a formal GM or perhaps divided up, but thereās no way other schools are operating like we are with Sha trying/wanting to do everything himself at this level.I donāt think anyone disagrees, but itās all so brand new that you also have to hire the right person. Thereās plenty of people lolā¦I donāt think anyone disagrees, but itās all so brand new that you also have to hire the right person. If it were all so simple, everyone would have a GM. But right now, few do.
Abdelmassih was the St.John's GM under Mullin before any of this stuff was legal. Was the perfect hire for Pitino.Seton Hall should follow the Pitino model. He made the perfect hire in my opinion.
