i have no idea on the importance of a gm. i assume you guys are right.
but pitino getting hopkins has nothing to do with a GM. Its RP and the Moneyman. he saw the great season and great press sju got, knows rp is a great coach and knows repoles checks dont bounce

It was the GM working with the player’s agent (representatives)
Who is working the Ian Jackson and another (will remain unnamed) talented PG situations right now? The GM. There is a reason guys are entering the portal with dont contact messages because their destinations have already been decided. That is the workings of the GM.
With regard to the basketball team, The role of the GM is more important than the AD.
Matt A is responsible for working the portal and facilitating the transfers. It allows Pitino to be in Italy right now to close the deal with a talented euro. Overseas guys are a phenomenal and cost effective way to help build out a roster in the Portal Era.

I am talking about Hopkins only. I think Hopkins wants a career and playing for Pitino on a good team in NYC in his last year for a bunch of money makes it an easy sell. Gonna get me some of what Luis got this year and going forward. Relationship? Connections? If I was the agent, I think I made those connections cause it is the perfect place for Hopkins.
Everyone automatically says it is Mike Repole and only him behind success of St. John’s NIL funds.
Mike Repole plays a big role but there are other very wealthy people in the fold.
Don’t underestimate all the kind words Pitino has throw Jim Dolan’s way the last few months.
Dolan loved seeing a sold out MSG for SJU games in February and March. Was in attendance for some of them.
