Seton Hall leads Princeton in the 3rd quarter 44-37 under 4 minutes. They had been up
by 16.

SHU extends lead back to 13 after 3 quarters 56-43. Play with chemistry, the Men not so much.

Hall up 63-54 Richardson makes a nice play but gets hurt. Looks like right leg. I think its her ankle.
3 minutes to go!

Hall up 7 with the ball just over a minute. Walsh about half to 3/4 full, but a good crowd.

Hall wins 71-64. That's a nice win against a good program when the fanbase was not available.

The Woman have more " "s than the Men right now!

Coaching = Leadership, Vision, Discipline, Planning, Execution and MOTIVATION!!

Tony has "IT"!

Princeton had been ranked 23rd in USA today poll. Correct? The Tigers didn't go away. Kept fighting.

I watched the women beat Rutgers - solid defense, efficient offense, good ball movement and great team chemistry. They are an excellent team and very solid fundamentally. And the free throw shooting is terrific. Coach has passion and seems to pull all the right strings.

Hopefully, Shakena Richardson is not hurt bad. She came in on the right side and did a finger roll, but landed
kind of awkward. Looked like some type of hyperextension to me. I don't believe it was an ACL or anything
like that, but it's tough to say.

Ankle injury for Richardson I think. She twisted her ankle early in the game but stayed in. Then the trainer on the tide is Richardson was being looked at before she walked off the court would help.

Shakena came back onto the bench under her own power for the last minute or so.

Tony B comes on Halline after the game. Excellent connection to the school Tony.

I know there were a number of recruits at the RU game and even though the weather is miserable hope there were recruits here tonight to see another very good SH team. We have , in just a little over two years , become the best women's team in NJ passing RU and Princeton and we accomplished that goal because we have the right head coach and he picked some outstanding assistants who have made a significant contribution to the success we're having.

Tony, man... Rolling along. Beyond impressive. That's a guy that knows what he's doing, is a leader, motivates his players, and wants to make Seton Hall the absolute best.

Hire him to coach the men too.

I saw about 2 or 3 HS and AAU teams there... And a few "recruit & coach" or "recruit & father" types behind the bench tonight.

Princeton never quit. They are strong willed- never say die players
But we were quicker with more skilled players and depth. Tony had bona fide 3 PG's on the court at one time.
SHUPat pointed out that the 3 players had to ask each other who the official PG was.
Thanks Pat for keeping me up to date on the men throughout the game.

Lastly, it's no wonder Kena Richrdson and Stringer didn't hit it off. Kena made some tricky moves tonight that aren't in anyone's' playbook. Most worked, some became turnovers. Tony lives with it, Stringer never would.

What's not ,to like about this team? Can't think of anything. Fun game to watch. Team plays really well together - like a team. Amazingly, they ave never trailed in a game this year. Never quit. Nice depth. Not intimidated. No fear of the opponent. Can't wait to see them play again. Flagship program right now.

Was at the game. This team is very quick both with their hands and feet. They beat a very good Princeton building the lead up to 16 points in the 4th quarter. If there was a negative it was letting Princeton get back in by reducing the lead to 5 points in the closing minutes. But after giving the Tigers a chance we regrouped & built the lead back up to 10 in the closing minute. The key play was the driving basket that Richardon got hurt on.

SH's bigs stayed with the more touted Tiger bigs. Plus, nice depth at that position. Jones is like the Everready Bunny. Never stops hustling. Plus, she can bound & shoot. Whole package.

It was the defense that won the game. When the Pirates went into an offensive funk in the 4th quarter it was the D that put pressure on Princeton and forced them to use up clock before being able to get shots off.

Defense was pretty strong all game. The frosh off the bench who ultimately fouled out backed down to no one and wasn't afraid of contact. Can't wait until she's a soph.

I love watching this team. They are simply a fun team.

A great win on many levels:

--First, Princeton is a very strong, well-coached team with a deep roster heavy with upperclassmen. They blew out their first two opponents.

--Second, it was a game of runs. The Pirates are also deep and able to withstand those runs. It was a genuine team win.

--The Pirates have many weapons. This game is a good example of the need to be two and three deep with talent at every position if you want to be ranked.

--Despite the dreary weather and difficult driving conditions, there was a respectable turnout of fans who were loud and enthusiastic. I also think the weather kept many Princeton fans from attending. They usually have a large contingent, especially so close to home.

Finally, they have only one day before playing at St. Joseph's. That's very tough scheduling, but I know the coach likes to get the team ready for the conference grind.

Let's hope Richardson is not seriously injured.

Go Pirates!

The morning after. There are already 25 posts about the Princeton game ! A few years ago nobody cared about SHU WBB . Now , it's easily our premier program.

This is what can happen with the right coach, the right staff, good recruits, and players who get better as they progress up the ladder, and senior recruits who know that it's fun to play for Tony.

It will only get better.

Box Score

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - The Seton Hall women's basketball team continued its hot start to the season by knocking off No. 24 Princeton, 71-64, on Thursday night at Walsh Gym. The Pirates (3-0) become the first team to record a victory against the Tigers (2-1) in the regular season since the final game of the 2013-14 season.

In front of a lively crowd of 1,130, Tabatha Richardson-Smith (Bay City, Texas) led The Hall with 15 points and eight rebounds as four Pirates scored in double-figures for the third-straight game. Seton Hall held Princeton to 33.3 percent shooting from the floor and 28.6 percent from 3-point range, marking the third-straight opponent held under 30 percent from distance. The Pirates also forced 17 turnovers and are +27 in turnover margin this season.

The Hall once again jumped out fast, taking a 20-12 lead after a quarter and a 39-28 advantage to halftime. The Tigers pulled as close as four in the second half thanks to runs of 9-0 and 11-0, but the Pirates did not trail and made crucial free throws down the stretch to seal the seven-point victory.

In support of Richardson-Smith, Tiffany Jones (New York, N.Y.) scored 16 points with six rebounds and Shakena Richardson (Neptune, N.J.) scored 12 and dished out eight assists. Aleesha Powell (Philadelphia, Pa.) scored 11 points, including eight from the charity stripe, and Jordan Mosley (Orlando, Fla.) chipped in eight points off the bench. Alex Wheatley led Princeton with 14 points and 12 rebounds.

Turning Point

Princeton used an 11-0 run to pull within five at 59-54 with less than four minutes to play, before two key plays from Richardson. The graduate point guard found Lubirdia Gordon (Mount Vernon, N.Y.) in the low block for a lay-in to go up seven, and on the next position drove to the basket herself and connected to put The Hall up 63-54. The Tigers were not able to get closer than six the rest of the way.

Head Coach Anthony Bozzella on the result

"I thought that was one of the most physical, hard-fought games we've played in a long time. I'm proud of the way we found a way to beat a really, really good team."

Inside The Numbers

- Jones, Powell, Richardson-Smith and Richardson have all scored in double-figures in each of Seton Hall's three games this season

- Jones' defensive effort helped to hold PU's Annie Tarakchian, who came in averaging 19.5 points per game, to three points on 1-for-11 shooting

- Princeton had a streak for 32-straight regular season wins snapped

- Richardson has 15 assists in her last two games

- Richardson-Smith hit four 3-pointers and now has 209 in her career, adding to her program-record total

News and Notes

- Tiffany Jones has scored in double-figures in five-straight games, including all three contests to open 2015-16

- The Hall is 3-0 for the second-time under Bozzella, joining the 2013-14 campaign

- With a crowd of 1,130 tonight, the Pirates have drawn over 1,000 for three-straight games for the first time under Bozzella

- The Hall improves to 11-4 all-time against Princeton

- The Pirates have won their last two games against ranked opponents, defeating No. 14 Georgia on Dec. 28, 2014 at Walsh

- The Hall is 21-0 in non-conference home games under Bozzella and has won 25 of 26 overall at Walsh

We need to take care of business down in Philly at St Joe's.
Good point Pat.

Brutal scheduling playing two games like we did against RU and Princeton and then having to go on the road one day later to play St Joe's.

That was my first woman's game and I have to say the energy (of the players, coaching staff and fans) really was incredible. I brought my freshman SHU intern and it sounds like there is a huge buzz around the team on campus. Awesome environment especially for young kids.

Glad you made it to the game! Hope you come to many more!

There is definitely a buzz on campus... A ton (relatively speaking of course) of students have been in the crowds - upper and lower levels - for the first 3 home games of the year.
