SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Alyssa Prukop (Coto de Caza, Calif.) delivered a pinch-hit, two-out, two-run double in the bottom of the seventh inning to propel the Seton Hall softball team (19-15-1) to a 4-3 walk-off win over Hofstra (14-17) on Tuesday afternoon. The victory at Mike Sheppard, Sr. Field marked The Hall's second true walk-off win of the season and first win over perennial Northeaster power Hofstra since 2007.

The Hall jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first with a solo home run from Lauren Fischer (Robbinsville, N.J.), a lead they held until the Pride pushed two across against Chrisa Head (Lewisville, Texas) in the top of the fifth. Noel Lent (Yaphank, N.Y.) leveled the contest with another solo shot in the bottom of the fifth but the Pride quickly answered in the top of the sixth with a home run of their own.

Turning Point
Down 3-2 in the bottom of the seventh, the Pirates secured a pair of one-out baserunners with a Hailey Arteaga (Upland, Calif.) walk before Darby Pandolfo (Massapequa, N.Y.) was hit by a pitch. After a strikeout, The Hall called on Prukop in a pinch-hitting spot. The junior launched a bullet deep to left over the head of the Hofstra left fielder, kicking off the fence and allowing Pandolfo to score the game-winning run from first.

Inside The Numbers
  • The Hall's triumph came despite a 7-4 deficit in hits, while SHU committed the game's lone error
  • Pirate pitching stranded eight Hofstra runners on base, holding the Pride 1-for-6 with runners in scoring position
  • Head fired 5.0 innings and allowed two runs of five hits before giving way to Reganne Camp (Bloomington, Ill.) who allowed a run on two hits in 2.0 innings to pick up the win
  • Four different Pirates recorded one hit, with a Pandolfo single joining extra-base hits from Fischer, Lent and Prukop
News and Notes
  • The Pirates improve to 11-15 all-time against the Pride, snapping a four-game losing streak in the series with their first win since March 25, 2007
  • Fischer's home run was her ninth of the year, second in the BIG EAST behind only teammate Alexis Walkden (Cibolo, Texas)
  • The Hall has now won three in a row, their fourth streak of at least three wins this season
  • The Pirates improve to 8-4 on the year at home, including a 5-1 mark in non-league home games
  • The Hall hit multiple home runs in a game for the ninth time this season
  • The walk-off for Prukop was the second of her career; the junior also delivered a walk-off single against Cornell on March 5, 2016
What's Next
The Hall will head to Omaha over the weekend for a BIG EAST series at Creighton. The Pirates and Bluejays will kick off the three-game set with a doubleheader on Friday, April 14 before a single game on Saturday, April 15.
