Purnell Out

Most probably staying out west as he might already quietly have a job offer.

You have to give Purnell credit for resigning. I wish Willard would be as honorable and resign. Resign Kevin and have some self respect.

Now maybe we can beat DePaul.
nearly 1/3 of Oliver's BE wins came against his personal whipping boy.

Speaking of Pat Kennedy---earlier in this thread--- has there ever been a better example of the Peter Principle in college basketball?

Since DePaul doesn't appear to be a plum, I wonder if Chicago's own Craig Robinson wills be a candidate?

Interesting story because they progressed this year. Must've been mutual. Who walks away from that?

I'm not enamored with Purnell as a coach whatsoever, but he does have 448-386 (.537) for his career and had taken 3 different programs to a total of 6 NCAA Tournaments prior to entering the 5-year abyss at DePaul.

Granted he's never won a game there in the NCAA's, but Willard isn't even remotely close to having accomplished anything like. With our facilities and how Willard is compensated, the one positive to take away from all this is that the university has really pushed more funding towards the program.

I don't think DePaul's new area opens until 2016-17, if it tracks on time. It's Chicago, so likely 2017-18, LOL.

I think we were the worst. Marquette beat us twice. DePaul beat us twice. Creighton went 4-4 down the stretch, won in the BET, and played their hearts out against Georgetown and nearly beat them.

DePaul went 1-11 after that 5-2 start. We went 1-9.

Purnell would be an excellent adviser/mentor for some younger coach like Keady is to Lavin.

72 and Jim,

That is funny about Kennedy. I thought he was doing the Pace thing like Ted Fiore at Monticlare State or Rollie (without having the success of course). That is really funny about the peter principle. I even forgot he was at Pace. I thought he dropped off the face of the earth like Jeff Ruland who was campaigning for our job. What ever happened to him?

Was thinking about Ruland recently. As some kind of an assistant, could he help our big men improve? Always thought during his almost four years with us that Aaron G. Should have gotten [much] better. I hope for the same with Ajou and Anthony.

Has any college coach fallen from grace more quickly than Ruland: NCAA tournament one year to two wins the next and gone?
.

It happened to Blaine Taylor at ODU although he was half in the bag on his TV show and it was a new AD so that was it for him anyway. Jim Barron to some degree at URI but he did not have any player scandals. Both Ruland and Taylor had the player suspensions and scandals.

I think only Purnell and Willard can survive these type of failures or lack of any progress. I mean Stan Heath got USF to both the NIT and NCAA before his drop off.

Steve what did Pernell accomplish? Never had a winning season. Beating SHU twice this year was not exactly an accomplishment. I too want a new coach but what did he really do that was greater than KW.

Go look at Oliver's career resume. It blows away Willard by a country mile. That's what SPK is referring to.

He's made the NCAA's 5 or 6 times with teams other than Depaul (Clemson, Dayton and ODU) and the NIT a whole bunch of times. Not a world beater but nevertheless and much better resume than Willards.

Had Clemson as the third best team in the ACC when he left. Willard had Seton Hall as the worst team in the Big East as of now. And Purnell was 4-3 against Willard in the Big East, that's a laugher!!!

With Purnell out, seton hall with Willard is bringing a table knife to a gun fight

I am not sure we have ever been this outclassed even by the back end of the conference.

I thought were were talking about his time in the BE. Telling me what he did at Clemson has nothing to do how his team has performed in the BE and that has been horrific. Nice guy but has not gotten it done at DePaul. And a 4-3 record against the Hall doesnt really impress me.

Incredible that we have the least accomplished coach in the league and he's going into his 6th season.

Too funny.
