If you're able to work from home (as some people are these days), it makes no sense to remain in the northeast. I hope to move south someday but that's probably 10-15 years off.

There sure are many draw backs. Public schools are atrocious, it lacks good paying jobs, Most people are in the service industry, most of the State is a hole - We only tend to think about south Florida. the people in Florida are weird, lots of people who are on the scam, losers, drug addicts and people running away from other states. While property taxes are low, if you are on the coast, house insurance will be more like what we think of property taxes here 6-8k. I love Florida and would not mind some day living there a few months out of the year. But there is no way I could live there all year. I am fully aware of the cons of the State.
If you have tons of cash and live in Boca Raton on the beach, life is pretty good. But the State as a whole, has tons of issues.
