Conventional wisdom says that Isaiah Whitehead must play the point to make it in the NBA. But does anyone think he can make it as a 2G?

It's too early to answer that question. If IW returns next year and the Hall has Thomas running the point and IW gets minutes at the two then we'll get a better idea. I think his best shot is as a combo guard playing both positions.

Yes...I think he can make it but not in the conventional way. I look at a player like Isaiah Thomas for the Celtics. He's all of about 5'8" but primarily plays the SG position. The difference is that he can really shoot it and he can handle the ball when he needs to.

For Whitehead to make it to the NBA, he will need to improve all facets of his game. He has a chance to do this but he needs to keep getting better. He needs to become a better ball handler for sure. However, I continue to be impressed by his on the ball defense.

In order for Whitehead to make and stay in the NBA he has to learn to do something extremely well.. be it defense, shooting etc.

Versatility helps all players when they move up to the professional ranks. Whitehead certainly has the size at a legitimate 6-4 to play off the ball. He is also well built and has decent next level athleticism.

I really like his jumper and when he learns the difference between a quality shot and a bad one his percentage will rapidly rise.

I know everyone is trying to pigeon hole him as a PG, but I don't see him that way. I see him as more a combo that has the ability as he matures to play both on and off the ball.

He has the heart and the skill level to play in the NBA. He just needs experience and that may mean more time in college. We'll see.

I happened to go to the Nets/Piston game on Sunday and watching Wayne Ellington, he struck me as a guy that IW could be if he continues to improve. Same size and a two guard...doesn't do anything great, but does a lot of things well. Isaiah still hasn't reached his ceiling, but I don't doubt he will play in the NBA. It's just a matter of will he be a starter, rotation guy or at the end of the bench. He doesn't strike me as a pure point and seems best suited as a combo that could be very valuable as a sixth/seventh man.

In my opinion, he has the skills to be an NBA 2 but not the size. NBA 2's are huge these days. His best path is PG.

agree with TAPS; I think now a days you really need to be a true 6'6+ to make it as a 2G in NBA.

IW should be watching and following how Steph Curry makes it happen in the NBA. Plays the Point, but pulls off being a shooting guard at the same time.

As a Sixers fan I look at Isaiah Canaan, small guy who is quick but totally not a PG... only difference is he can shoot. Whitehead isnt that bad at shooting, but hes gotta be a lot better to be considered 2G imo. However, I think he has a better shot at 2G than PG. Hes just not an acceptable NBA PG and is far from it.

My son is a big NBA fan, and a few years ago, he said to me, you will never guess who is 1 (might have been 2) in the NBA in triple doubles. The answer was Lance Stephenson. You just never know. Isaiah in a functioning offense where he doesn't have to be the leading scorer may be a completely different player.

I guess he could spend time at the two, but I would think point is his major destination.

I think he would have trouble scoring in the NBA unless that outside shot develops.

He cant really dribble... how is he going to be a PG? Too many mistakes...The talent is totally there, just wish we had a coach who was better at refining him. I want to buy a whitehead NBA jersey
