We keep winning and it will only be a matter of time before recruits take notice. Sha’s philosophy is for serious players only. Recruits at last nights game have to be thinking I want some of that mojo. Listen to Sha’s post game comments about the message he’s sending to Richmond about bringing his A game every night. I think we got ourselves a winner in more ways than we can imagine. Sha’s not perfect yet but he will be in the future. Look no further than the Giants at what a good coach brings to the table.

The Giants analogy is bad because when it comes to getting player all teams have the same salary cap. Recruits are taking notice of money. I'm more worried about other schools with deeper pockets taking notice of Sha and what he could do with more NIL money. It's going to be tough explaining to a young man why turning down $300K to take $75K to play for a specific coach is a good thing.

There were a lot of recruits behind the bench last night. Looked like a team with coaches. Anybody have any idea who or what team was there ?

NIL aside. I think we should try to be patient with Sha and recruiting. He is up against it (without NIL) AND his personality and coaching style will require specific recruits to sign up (and stay)

He is relentless on them. He will have to find guys who can operate and thrive in that environment ( they definitely do exist). However, I see a lot of trial and error early on. DISCLAIMER: I am not making this post about right or wrong...stating a fact...most of these kids will get to Sha from about 13 years of AAU to High school of rarely if ever being yelled at or grinded on. Some will simply not be able to do it and will most likely be shown the door.

Once he finds his guys to buy in and maintains a certain level of talent, it will be awesome to watch every year.

First we saw the athletic infrastructure race become a factor recruits considered in making their college choice. Now we have NIL and how much they can get paid become a major factor in a recruits decision. In both those factors SH is not competitive with the schools we’re recruiting against and what Sha is able to bring in this year will give us a fair appraisal of just what we can expect with our recruiting.

Remember Bobby Knight, The players who bought in, loved him and every year a kid would transfer because it was not for him. Let’s hope Sha can win like that, without the chair tossing.
I was thinking the same thing. Tough love isn’t for everyone but that’s okay.

Im sorry, irrelevant. Bobby Knight got to Indianna literally over 50 years ago. His first class would roughly 70 years old. B. Knight would last 30 seconds in 2023. Im not debating whether that is right or wrong it is fact.

There was a 5 star pg recruit there last night.
Sha is not for everyone, but the kids that sign up are the kids I want to see.
Doesnt even consider another (much smaller) his extreme defense first playing style. That by itself turns kids off, much smaller potatoes than other things but still in play.

He will find a groove (with more winning) but I think we will see some trial and error. Buy-in is the most important for any team but I think its even more necessary for Sha

Agree 100% we need patience and some NIL but he’s the right guy for this job in my opinion. If I’m a parent he’s the guy I want for my kid but not for everyone.

Not Bobby Knight, but his tough love coaching style.

I get the point but even still his tough-love coaching style is a dinosaur. Even Sha who is as relentless in 2023 as you can be would be soft in a Knight style.

Heres one: How many times do you think Knight spoke to an already enrolled kids parent in 31 years at Indianna? Im guessing..but the number would be very very very low

Probably happens weekly at SHU and everywhere else

Sure, but not comparing the environment we are in versus 50 years ago.

But, our kids are buying into what SHA is selling. And we need to realize some kids wont. I got that to be the point, to look for good players willing to buy in.

Yes, but I would say we would still like more talent, and this is a unique team of older players who are more mature, been through "it" and are big time buying in...I think that is my point..hard to recruit them from HS....100% not impossible but we should give him slack

Think you get greater value out of Finding KC, with all the intangibles he brings as an upper classman, than a 5 star recruit who has an up and down year (as almost all freshman do) and then declares for the draft.
Or transfers….

I don’t know if Sha will ever land a 5 star given our NIL budget but if we all do our part and contribute, even if only a few dollars, perhaps Sha can get the 3 and 4 stars who will buy in and do it his way, like we’re seeing this year. Don’t forget that Mamu and Rhoden were 3 star recruits. Of course, if he can find those guys, player retention becomes a major factor. But hasn’t it always?

Is SHU able to pay $75K?

Maybe this is the last season before we see the true effects of the NIL? I mean isn’t the class of 2027 the one that will be top heavy as far as compensation?

Just look with Sha did with Samuel and Richmond. He motivated and coached both players to realize that their enormous potentials. Very few, if any, disappearing acts by them. He turned Ndefo into a star and perhaps Samuels and Richmond into NBA players. Recruits have to start noticing how Sha transforms players to new heights.

We will just need some time.
I have no doubts about Sha being the right guy for us. I thought we would be doing better on the recruiting front by now but maybe NIL seems to be a bigger obstacle for us that I expected. He will need build the program winning with 3*, a few 4* and transfers before we the dust settles on the new environment. He'll get us there though.

Or without the antisocial raging and aggressive, hostile misanthropy against powerless people in the athletics department.

If you go back you can find posts/threads back in November where people thought we'd have guys quitting the team. Really great to see where we are based on wher we were.

We have been saying this for the last 20 years lol

What does a school's pockets have to do with NIL. That is supposed to be advertisers paying for Image and likeness...not a work around for pay to play. If this is what is happening it should be investigated. I'm sure it's happening. This is what you get from the decision by a shortsighted judge.

But, but...what about Willard and his big man whisperer? I thought they were the best at developing talent despite seeing huge jumps in their games after the left.

Sha is going to attract kids with a chip on their shoulder who are looking to prove they are better. They might be sitting on the bench somewhere waiting for their chance. Our coach brings out the best in the players.

Would you feel better if I said schools with alumni with deep pockets who are willing to pay for “NIL” opportunities for the players. Whatever makes you feel better. Everyone else understood.

Dude you can make the same comparison of Mamu his sophomore year. He came here was a face up 4 but after working the middle for most of the year he understood what he needed to do and there was insane improvement from the prior year. Why can’t both coaches have done a good job?

Huge jumps after they left? Does that mean Kevin Boyle and Bob Hurley Sr. didn’t develop talent because most their talent had jumps after they left? As if a player makes more strides after leaving means the previous coach didn’t do a good job. Kyle Lowry made a good jump after he left Jay Wright. Such a dumb argument.

Are you seriously comparing High school and college coaches in their ability to develop players?? I think it's fair to say Mamu in the G-League and NBA is facing much better opposition yet his offensive game is vastly improved over his college level. So is Rhoden in G-League averaging 18 and 9. This as a complementary player vs "the man". Are you really comparing Wright to Willard?? Lowry was a 2 year player and went in the first round. Let's see what Maryland thinks of him in a year or so ... he's having a great first year...lost 6 of 9. That brings back January memories.

I'll bet Mamu and Rhoden are playing with much better offensive PGs than McKnight. Loved Q but he wasn't a create for others PG. That might have a little something to do with it.

You want to pick apart my comparisons that are based on the words you said. 1st you can't compare a HS to college coach. Then you can't compare Nova players who have greatly improved in the league. Willard all bad. Can't ever say anything good about him.
