Richmond Dazzles In Exhibition Win Over NJIT, 68-60

Newark, N.J. — Senior Kadary Richmond (Brooklyn, N.Y.) finished with a near triple-double, dropping 24 points on 9-of-10 shooting, pulling down nine rebounds and dishing out six assists, in the Seton Hall men's basketball team's 68-60 win over NJIT in a preseason charity exhibition at the Wellness & Events Center in Newark.

All proceeds from the exhibition will go towards Team Walker, a non-profit founded by SHU Athletics Hall of Famer Jerry Walker that provides after school programming for children and young adults in Jersey City.

Senior Dre Davis (Indianapolis, Ind.) scored 19 points while senior Al-Amir Dawes (Newark, N.J.) chipped with 13 points, 12 of which came in the second half.

How It Happened

The score was tied at 25-25 with five minutes left in the first half before NJIT used an 11-1 run to take the largest lead of the game, 36-26, with 2:01 to go before halftime.

A three-point basket by senior Dylan Addae-Wusu (Bronx, N.Y.) stopped the bleeding and got the Pirates' deficit back under double-digits and the final basket of the first 20 minutes came off a coast-to-coast layup by Richmond that made it 38-33 at the break.

NJIT led 42-35 at the 18:23 mark in the second half when the Pirates went on a 7-0 run and forced two Highlander turnovers to tie the game up at 42-42. Richmond's steal and layup served as the game-tying basket and he went on to score the Pirates' next five points, including a corner three off of a Dawes assist that gave the Pirates a 47-45 lead with 14:20 to play.

A thunderous alley-top dunk off of an out-of-bounds play with one second left on the shot clock put the Highlanders back in front, 55-54, with 6:53 to go but five consecutive points by Dawes sparked a 10-0 run that Seton Hall a 64-55 lead, their largest of the game, with under three minutes left.
