Rick speaks out

Easy to say when you have one of the highest payrolls in the BE
Don’t know what that has to do with Pitino never meeting a microphone he doesn’t like.

No way they have one of the highest payrolls in the sport.

And Pitino’s been one of the best for 40 years, long before this garbage era we have now.

You have to appreciate the numerous and varied ways Rick Pitino shows himself to be a douche bag. The guy is nothing if not consistent.
Neither his act nor your coaches act bother me and they are cut from the exact same cloth. It reminds me of all the BE coaching characters the league was built from.

Well, maybe wait until Danny gets caught boinking a bimbo on the table at a restaurant before you say they're cut from the same cloth? I'm just saying.

“The only major difference I witnessed is the ball was in his hands more at Seton Hall and I feel he’s put on about eight or ten pounds that he needs to lose,” Pitino said.

“At Seton Hall, he had the ball 80-percent of the time,” he continued. “He’s not as quick as he was then, and I talked to him last night about it and studying you could see it.”

Does saying stuff this to the media really motivate players? Seems like a private convo thing to me

How does gaining weight reduce his FT percentage by 32%? Rick clearly tinkered with his shot to make him
a better outside shooter. Results? Much worse from the line and now shooting 20 percent from 3. Not sure how K ended the year at the 3 for SHU, but I thought around 31%.

27% from 3 last year.

His FG.% is actually better this year, which seems odd given the FT struggles.

No clue. Some guys were famous for it like Parcells. Others not so much. I guess it depends on the situation and how successful the coach.

Having watched Johnnies all Year , it does not appear that KR is pain free --he is moving less fluently-- it may be that he is heavier. His shot appears flatter. I don't get the impression that he and Pitino have any rapport.
The biggest problem is that there is only one basketball and a lot of end Game hero ball by his Team-mates. I have been surprised at the use of KR in the end -game. Strange that Ricky had to "recently" go to the film to see what was bought for him.

The only close game they had I watched at the end was Baylor, where Kadary had the ball in end game situations and made some huge buckets. They don’t seem to have had many close ones besides their 3 losses and the Providence W.

Richmond has always looked slow to me, which is why I always called him a hybrid point-forward out of the Anderson mold. He can be quick in space for sure, but has never been anywhere near the most athletic guy compared to high major athletes.

I haven’t watched enough of them to have an informed view of the “ball sharing aspect”, but both him and Smith are averaging like 4.5 assists per game. It’s pretty good to have two guys doing that, which seems to indicate they are sharing the ball. The team as a whole is averaging 16.4 assists per game based on the stats I just looked at - you got me curious - which isn’t great, but also isn’t terrible. It puts them around 45th nationally (we are 288).

I laughed out loud when he said he went to St. John's and he was going to focus on hitting the three more because they thought he could really be a good outside shooter- lol I can't believe that worked on him but $$$$$ talks

I've watched a few of their games this year and he's definitely not the same assertive player. Kadary dances to the beat of his own drum. Sha put in a lot of effort there to get him to where he was last year, especially after the back injury the season prior. He was in much better shape than he was in under Willard.

Pitino is a great coach and I'm sure he's right, but the next question is why did this occur then?

Need players to hit shots to collect assists.

My guess would be Richmond is getting easier baskets with all the talent around home vs. actually improving his shot as both his free throw and 3 point percentages are at an all-time low. That might explain his higher 2-point scoring percentage improvement.

His defensive rating has improved, whereas his offensive rating has gone down.

But that’s an offensively loaded roster. They should be scoring in the high 70’s minimally.

I don’t think they are that loaded offensively. Outside shooting is a weakness. They have some nice pieces, and through Pitino’s development Zuby looks like a different player. Athletic group and versatile.

I remember Zuby being a top 40 recruit out of Texas if my memory’s correct. And he’s now in his 3rd year of our high school—often do or die by that time.

Smith (7 assists last year and 13 ppg) was a stud before he came. Wilcher has been a nice story for Pitino—I feel he’s Pitino’s best improvement.

But Luis was a very good player his freshman year before going to St. John’s and Scott was a hugely valuable transfer that was in high demand.

Pitino has definitely done a poor job with Iwuchukwu. Former 5 star that should be better now after he was average in his sophomore season with USC.

With their talent level, I see St. John’s where they should be. No better, no worse.

wait so the legendary championship winning rick pitino cant get the level of production out of kadary than our no good yelling all the time coach?? but i was told that's why kadary left...

everyone wait a few minutes and you'll see the wild trolls spring into action!

Are you trolling the “trolls” right now? Oh the hypocrisy…

Richmond high water mark was that uconn game couple years back where he feasted on posting up the defender. Why doesn't he post up his defender anymore ?
