if I was a RU fan after watching yesterday’s game and what they’ve seen so far I wouldn’t be too optimistic about this year’s potential, this team is being carried by 2 players. There is no doubt, both of these guys are really good and they will be one and done with Harper being a definite 1st rounder, and Bailey probably being no worse than 2nd rounder right now. But you could see they have Freshman moments and will probably not be enough to carry this RU team to NCAA tourney bid assuming B1G is a decent conference this year.

The rest of the roster to me is probably comparable to what we’re looking at right now once you get past Coleman, Wusu, Jenkins.

The point being; Rutgers may have won the PR getting 2 top recruits (would love to know what they paid for these guys) but I could see this end being a non event for them in terms of translating into wins and making NCAAs. I could be wrong, but not a real cohesive team there.

Bailey is a lottery pick.

I disagree. If you watched them this year they do have other pieces that contribute led by 2 freshman. We just did a real good job mucking it up on D for them in the 1st half

The 2 freshmen are phenomenal. I do think they have some decent talent besides those 2 but they are not used at all. There is no TEAM offense at all, just the 2 frosh going at it alone, roll the balls out.

They have a lot of work to do to make the NCAA’s. Anything less is an abject failure.

Yeah I think you may be wrong here. Even if Rutgers loses every game for the rest of the season, the were invited to the OOC NIL tourney and already banked 1 mil for future NIL, got lots of national free publicity, and the two probable lottery picks will keep giving them positive press if they turn into nba rotation players.

I agree with you as far as real potential they don’t make tourney but it still helps their future so it’s still a huge win for them.

I watch a decent amount of Rutgers and have always felt Pike was a pretty good coach who catches a lot to heat.

This season im starting to agree with the people in the he is lost camp

They are a good team and they look lost 75% of the time…they were 0% prepared for any kind of press we threw at them which is wild

Sometimes when u dont play well or lose the other team was just better. Our D was swarming and that type of D is tough for anybody. We play alot with our hands and always have. Its frusting to play against D like that

Can't disagree here. The majority of posters on the Rutgers board have significantly downgraded their expectations. Lathan is a very nice piece as a freshman and Jeremiah Williams is a nice player - but there seems to be far more energy expended on the offensive side of the ball (which is not Pike's strong suit) than the defensive side and the team seems to lack cohesion on both sides of the ball at times. Some of the newer transfers lack the athleticism to play tight defense, they are caught out of position, over-pursue to defend the 3, and then are beaten badly as their target drives around them. Very little interior defense as well, as you saw yesterday with the numerous drive-and-dishes in the low post for open dunks.

I know Seton Hall fans recall their own 2000 class - and that team at least had a future NBA center and a very capable Darius Lane to round out the roster. I've said all along, "just make the Dance".

Also, "Bailey probably being no worse than 2nd rounder right now" is technically accurate - but a massive understatement.
