PURCHASE, N.Y. - Senior Ryan Snouffer (Sparta, N.J.) won the Brae Burn Invitational at nearby Brae Burn Country Club in Purchase, N.Y. on Thursday.
Snouffer is remaining active in summer tournaments following a historically impressive first year at Seton Hall since transferring from Adelphi a year ago.
The rising senior bested a field of 72 individual golfers by five strokes after leading the event from wire-to-wire. In round one, Snouffer had already recorded six birdies before carding an eagle on the par-5, 18th hole to finish his afternoon with a 4-under-par, 68. In round two, registered five more birdies and never looked back, cruising to a 2-under-par, 70.
"Winning this tournament was really key for me," Snouffer said. "I didn't fare as well as I wanted to in the state am so my spirits were a little down. To win this event was really the motivation I needed to get me back on track to where I want to be. It really gives me some momentum heading into the rest of my summer schedule."
For the 36-hole tournament, Snouffer finished with a 6-under-par, 68-70-138, five strokes ahead of the second place finisher, Matt Lowe, who was the only other competitor to shoot under par for the event.
"Putting was definitely key for me this event," Snouffer said. "I made a lot of pressure and clutch putts to keep my rounds together. If I had been off putting this week, I could have easily been even par or a few over. That's what really separates the tour players from the amateurs. The rest of my game was a "B," but my putting was definitely an "A+."
Snouffer and the rest of the Seton Hall men's golf team will begin the 2015 fall season on Sunday, Sept. 6 for the first two of three rounds of golf at the Turning Stone Tiger Intercollegiate.
