NEW YORK - Senior forward Tyrese Samuel (Montreal, Quebec) has been named second team All-Met by the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association, the organization announced Wednesday.

This marks the 17th consecutive season that a Seton Hall men's basketball player has made an All-Met team.

The honor bookends a career for Samuel that started with him averaging just 3.2 points and 11 minutes per game as a freshman for a squad that won the 2020 BIG EAST regular season championship. He worked his way into becoming a double-digit scorer for the Pirates as a senior, posting 11.0 points, 5.9 rebounds and 1.1 steals per game while shooting 55 percent from the floor.

Samuel was twice named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll and MBWA Honorable Mention this past season where he set career highs in points, rebounds, steals and minutes per game. His 19 double figure scoring games and six double-doubles were also a career bests. Always consistent, Samuel started and played in all 33 games for the Pirates and averaged nearly 11 points per game against BIG EAST competition. His most memorable moment as a Pirate came against Memphis on Nov. 24 when his buzzer-beating three-point basket was banked in from the top of the arc, sealing a 70-69 victory.

A three-time BIG EAST All-Academic Team selection, Samuel will graduate from Seton Hall in May with a degree in social and behavioral sciences.

The 2022-23 All-Met teams will be honored at the 90th MBWA Haggerty Awards dinner on Thursday, April 27, at the Sleepy Hollow Hotel & Conference Center in Tarrytown, NY. The Haggerty dinner is the longest running, media-managed college basketball awards program in the United States.

I still believe his numbers would be down if he played the 4 and not the 5. Of course he would be tossing up a ton of 3's at the 4 but would have a lower rebounds and points.

Yet he doesn't (Does he?) appear in the list of top 100 players in the portal.
St. John's David Jones is #40. Jones is a good player, but....

Just like we missed Ike (and Yetna) we will miss Tyrese. He was very good this year and he played better as a 5 than as a 4. But he sees himself as a 4 and that is most likely where he can make some money after college.

Congrats on earning this honor. Thanks for your hard work these past 4 years.

What a shame that arguably the two best BB players on campus, Samuel and Park Lane, both with a year of eligibility left choose to chase the money, as is their right, and play their final season elsewhere.
