I don’t know enough about him to know if he’s full of shit or legit, but I do think what he says is reasonable. Some people who talk about TDS don’t recognize that there are really two definitions of it, far left and far right. Maybe the right should be called Trump Lust? But here, I like that Sasse lays down that you can be a Republican AND not agree with “one dude”.

I think Sasse is probably one of the few politicians that is genuine and believes in what he says. A leader with values that we should be listening to. It’s really early but hope he is in the mix for 2024.

I like Sasse a lot and hope he is in the mix for 2020 as well. The party doesn't currently seem like he could do well in a primary though. First step would have been this week and getting behind disavowing the Qanon congresswoman.

Merge you’re the best with the search function.... store this one away...Haley/Toomey ticket in 2024. Just don’t know who would be at the top of the ticket.

As good of a guess as any now. That would probably be a strong ticket

It's politics. They won't disavow her just like the Dems won't disavow the many antisemetic remarks made by a congressswoman. The more we talk the people on both sides, less gets done. I'd rather them work on getting stuff done than what he said or she said months or years ago.

Disagree. A violent mob stormed the US capital lead by conspiracy theory nutjobs including members of congress.

I'm not against holding dems accountable for their words, but this situation is clearly different.
The party needs to distance themselves from Qanon as soon as possible but they are afraid to.

Violent mobs were all over the country all year destroying lives of people who don't get public funding to protect themselves and their work place 24 hours per day led by nutjobs going on tv saying as long as there is unrest in our lives there will be unrest in the streets. A violent mob is a violent mob no matter where they storm, the US Capitol or your house.

But the point it, they're still "trump supporters"...

They, like me, were supporters of policies and stances on issues. We don't need a idol in the White House.

I call them Republicans, not Trump supporters. If you don’t think that there are still Trump supporters post presidency, you haven’t been watching.

I like Trump. If that makes me a Trump supporter so be it. However I think I would support people on either side who have normal policies and gives the middle finger to the estrablishment. Too many politicians bow down to the system and play the game.

How many people offended by Trump weren't offended by South Park? The politicians have reprogrammed people, it's insane to see. If people support Trump, that's their right.

Sorry, I watched South Park for childish entertainment. I don't look to the Office of the President of the United States to fulfill the same needs.

Really? You just used South Park to justify Trump's behavior for 4 years? The South Park where Satan slapped Saddam Hussein in the face with a giant dildo? OK.

Don't twist my words. I can twist the fact you find childish entertainement in using the N word the way South Park did. But I won't. Didn't they use it 50 times in one episode? You enjoyed the show, so be it. I never justified his actions, I just said they weren't offensive. There are many things I can dislike and not be offended by. His fingers and his mouth lost him the election. There's a lot of things I don't like said or done by politicians from sleeping with foreign spies to insider trading. But I'm not offended. Nor do look down on those who support those same people. I stand by the fact that I find it ironic people offended by Trump weren't offended by South Park.

Trump's behavior after November 3rd was offensive in every way.

Love how people still crying about irrelevant Trump ....or he’s not irrelevant. Irrelevant to me and I voted for him

He was a typical sore loser. I'd lose 1/3 of the contacts in my phone if I was offended by sore losers. I'd still vote for him in the next election if it was Kamala vs Trump.

That's not unreasonable considering your political views, but how about in a primary and it is Trump vs Sasse?
That's really the point of this thread.

Trump is good for TV ratings so you'll see the usual suspects still talk about him as much as they can even though he is now irrelevant.

A shame because we have a new president now. Let's talk about him and his administration, not the previous one.

Unfortunately it's all about the general. If people are going to stay home because of a divide and only one will win the election, I'm going with that guy. If both guys are capable of winning the general then I'd have to do more homework on Sasse. Right now the answer is Trump. He was, is, and will be a whacko but his policies were moderate and very business friendly. I really want someone who promotes health instead of healthcare in the country. The guy eating McDonald's isn't the answer, but I'm forced to vote for economics because both sides are being bought by big beef and chichen companies along with the sugar and alcohol industries so the point is moot.

Because it is a binary choice in our current political system. I know many who did not like the man, did not agree with the rhetoric, but agreed with at least some (if not many) of the policies. And so the choice is between that and, in their view, a party being driven to the left and whose policies are increasingly dictated by Twitter commentary, woke/PC nonsense, UBI, union-agendas (like schools), anti-religious actions, and other issues independents or historically mainstream Ds or Rs have an issue with. So people felt compelled to ignore the man and support the policies they think have a bigger impact on their everyday lives. I'm not saying I agree with it, but I certainly understand the viewpoint.

I don't have TDS. I liked his approach on taxes. I like the fact that he called out China. But there was so much other stuff I could not stand and I'm a conservative. He extended the swamp in a narcissistic way. He did nothing to clear the swamp. Jared Kushner seriously and Trump's family? He was a Dem then a Repub but really more about the party of Trump. He acted like a baby and lied and helped incite a riot. At some point whether you like some of his policies or not, the guy was so far over the line it wasn't even funny. He lives with gold all over his apartment but that doesn't make him classy. He lied so much it got ridiculous. And he handled the biggest opportunity of his presidency which was also the biggest crisis (Covid) so badly he lost the chance to be President of my great country. He failed to lead because all he cared about was being reelected. A week before the election he calls out Laura Ingraham at a rally and mocks her because she is wearing a mask to make a funny? He politicized all the wrong things, became such a nutjob, surrounded himself with yes men who would not question his crazy ass ideas. I am amazed that so many so-called conservatives love the guy and still do. Seriously how many generals who served in foreign wars did he criticize and then his followers would do the same? These same folks would call Ronald Reagan a RINO today. It's a cult and people seem to be completely blinded by the cult. I've never seen or experienced anything like it. Sometimes you have to have standards and step back and say the guy I voted for F'd up and admit it instead of perpetuating the lies and half-truths and over politicization of all the wrong things. There are much better candidates than him.

Not a Biden fan but just his words so far are so much better. I'm sure I will not like a lot of things he does but that will be no different than what I experienced with Trump.

Sasse stood up to Trump consistently and called him out. Not an easy position for him and he has gotten death threats as a result. He did his job as he saw fit. Trump did more damage to our country than we will ever know and some future candidates will feel that. I really like Nikki Haley and know she has Presidential aspirations, but her affiliation with Trump might really hurt her going forward. Should be interesting.

This is perfect. As a rational person I can admit I screwed up voting to re-elect the clown. The way Trump behaved would be unbecoming of a toddler.

Look no further than dems stealing from Bernie not once but twice, to hammer home your point

trump however beat republicans fair and square despite efforts by the establishment

And just shows you the problems with the current options. That this guy beat the establishment candidates in both parties once - the biggest political upset in modern history - and would have cake-walked probably to re-election if not for COVID shows you the problems with both party’s political platforms right now.

I am pulling for Biden because I always pull for my President, whoever it is. I want them to do well, regardless of party. I care less about the “words” and more about the action. Let’s see what he does with the unions and schools. And let’s see what he does with these stimulus checks and our small businesses. I’m rooting for him to do the right thing for everyone’s sake.

Republicans did not have the balls to do what Trump did, that’s why he got elected. Did I like his approach no, was he rough around the edges yes and that is being kind. Did I like his policies yes. I would rather be energy independent than energy dependent, I’m pro life so I appreciated that he stood up for unborn babies. I was happy to see companies coming back to USA. I learn a long Time ago that I don’t need to like someone if they are getting a job done. Of course getting a job done is different for everyone, I’m sure lots of folks are happy that the new administration has a favorable position on abortion and buying oil from overseas. Just a matter of perspective and now each of us views the world. Personally would like to see someone who is smart, kind and made all the right decisions for all the right reasons get elected. I think most Americans are tired of the political elite running our country.

But what job did he get done? I think SPK said it above, paraphrased, he didn’t drain any swamp. He pushed some stuff out of the way to cram in his under qualified family and cronies. Was it all bad? No, he had some good ideas. But implementation sucked and there was more bad than good. Republicans proved themselves weak followers putting aside morals because people voted for trump, and not always for the right reason. I’d love to see Republicans grow some balls and back someone like Sasse. And by all means, work together with moderate Democrats to creat a majority in the middle, not the wacko outskirts of both sides.

seeing people completley lose context around that baffoon is the ultimate insanity.

I can certainly respect differing viewpoints, but you think there are liberals out there who are against energy independence and pro oil imports?

We may have different world views but we have the same goals. We are both for energy independence. We are both against abortion. We are both pro-American jobs. We just approach those issues with different solutions.

It’s acceptable to cancel classic movies for woke society. It happened a few times this year. But don’t touch South Park. Let’s pick and choose woke culture when it fits our need. I’m all for canceling Trump but follow some sort of logic. There’s no logic of woke culture other than when I want to cancel something, I want it canceled now and if you don’t agree then you’re some type of bigot.

We’re canceling everything. Trump is not the most offensive thing this earth has ever seen. Many things have gotten a pass that are more offensive than Trump. If you’re response is one is on tv, the other is in the White House...why the hell are we canceling so much crap on TV. Fact is TV is no reason to give something a pass. I’ll bet TV, movies, and music have more influence on how people live their lives than any president has.

contrary to belief there’s a lot more offensive things than Trump. If you believe Trump is the most offensive thing we have seen, you’re the straw man, as CNN thinks for you. Trump is offensive but it’s ok to have a society with 10 year olds listening to and singing a song named Wet Ass P****. Great logic by the world of cancel culture.

That may have been the dumbest post I’ve ever read, and you’ve had some masterpieces.
