Strengths:
His specialty is rebounding the ball and that's a niche that translates to any level. He'll rebound both out of his area as well as in traffic and puts up tremendous numbers as a result on a per/minute basis. He's got all the physical tools with good size, athleticism, and a strong body. He runs and finishes, plays within himself offensively, and is active and mobile on the defensive end.

Weaknesses:
It's not so much a weakness as it is a limitation of his potential role, but right now Delgado is a rebounder, finisher, and defender - in that order - and struggles when trying to be more than that, especially on the offensive end where he can throw in a jump hook every now and then but lacks the footwork or skill set to be more of a scoring option.

Bottom Line:
The fact that he came out of nowhere to become a high-major prospect virtually overnight is testament enough that when you're one of the best rebounders in the country, you're going to have your choice of college suitors.

Entering the season there were high expectations for Delgado. Most thought he would be the Robin to Isaiah Whitehead's Batman. To the surprise of nearly everyone at season's end it was the reverse. And when the dust had settled it was Delgado and not Whitehead who took home the Big East ROY award.

Strengths:

Clearly rebounding, toughness and inspiration were the catalyst in Angel's excellent rookie season. Despite often being outsized against bigger and stronger centers no one outworked or out-hustled the emotional first year player.

Delgado was often a one man show on the boards playing on a small (3 guard) starting unit so his contributions were critical. His average of nearly 10 rebounds a game while adding a much needed 9PPG (shooting 55.5%) kept the Pirates in many league games.

Weaknesses:

You first have to start with his free throw shooting. Angel hurt the team badly by making just 41% of his shots from the charity stripe. And that doesn't include missed opportunities by not connecting on the front end of one and ones.

Delgado's defense was also questionable. But often that was a result of his needing to be on the court as he had no quality backup. Angel gave up a lot of uncontested interior baskets by not challenging shooters early in games. The tradeoff was keeping Delgado on the court.

Bottom Line:

I shutter to think where the Hall might have been without the big man from the Dominican Republic. He might not have been the best or the most talented Pirate but no other SHU player had his impact on the game. Delgado will clearly become one of the best big man in the league if he gets the interior help needed. He needs to improve his foul shooting and defense, although the strategy of his backing away from contact early in games is not his fault.

Delgado also started to show some quality interior moves and better footwork as the season progressed and as he matures they will improve.

Final rating. A

It could have been an A+ but free throw deficiencies and defensive issues prevented that.
