Seton Hall All-Time vs. the Bluejays: Creighton leads, 21-6

Earlier this Year:

Creighton 72, Seton Hall 64 (F) – January 11, 2025 (Walsh Gymnasium)

AGAINST CREIGHTON

Seton Hall and Creighton will meet for the second time this season on Wednesday. The Bluejays own a 21-6 all-time series lead and have won the last seven games against The Hall. The Pirates lost, 57-49, last year at D.J. Sokol Arena. The Hall’s last victory in Omaha came on Dec. 31, 2015.

EARLIER THIS YEAR AGAINST CREIGHTON

Faith Masonius had a team-high 18 points, but the Pirates couldn’t complete its comeback in a 72-64 loss to Creighton on Jan. 11 in Walsh Gymnasium.

Down by as many as 17 points in the second half, the Pirates cut their deficit to only two points, 64-62, with 2:29 remaining in the game, but ultimately, they couldn’t find the equalizer. Creighton closed out the game with an 8-2 run, with all eight coming from All-BIG EAST forward Morgan Maly.

Masonius had 18 points on 8-for-13 shooting with six rebounds and five assists. Freshman Jada Eads had 11 points, five rebounds and four assists, while Yaya Lops collected 10 points, six rebounds and two steals.

SCOUTING CREIGHTON

This season, Creighton was picked to finish second in the 11-team BIG EAST Conference. Lauren Jensen and Morgan Maly were named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team.

The Bluejays enter Wednesday’s contest with an 18-4 overall record and a sparkling 10-1 mark in BIG EAST play. Creighton’s lone loss in conference action came to No. 6 Connecticut, 72-61, in Omaha on Jan. 25. Most recently, the Bluejays defeated Providence, 79-66, on Sunday. In BIG EAST games, Creighton ranks second in the conference in points per game, scoring margin, field goal percentage and three-point percentage. Jensen and Maly are both averaging over 17.0 points per game.

Not impossible, but they have to play a top game. Need some consistent shooting through out the game and have to prevent a banner night from three by Creighton. This is not a Must game, but a win could be a huge step to a bid

If you think an at-large bid is on the table, this is absolutely a must win. The resume is tissue thin.

We're sitting as the seventh team out with a NET of 66, 13 of 16 wins are Q3 and Q4 with 10 of them Q4. We're 0-3 in Q1 games with the average margin of loss being 40 points.

Only 58 teams have Q1 wins. Getting even one would help the cause immeasurably and there are few opportunities (UConn and maybe @ SJU -- the latter is not at the moment).

With that said, I think we have to win the Big East Tournament.

So, if they lose this one they may get another shot at Creighton st the BE Tournament. I guess that may line up as a Q1 win? Not sure. I did say a win is a huge leap and would help their cause. It is not an elimination game though. They are border line team in their game by game performance. So far no great wins. I don't believe they can beat UConn. No chance I'd say. UConn would have to lose to Creighton or Marquette for SHU to have any chance to win The BE Tournament.

The Hall could win 6 of these last 8 or go 3-5. No margin for error. They win 6 and get 2 at the BE the will finish 24-8(16-5). A Bubble Team. Teams in front of them can lose and teams behind them can jump ahead. Also, they can't lose to UConn by 40 or 50 at home. Gino will show no mercy competing for a possible one seed. At least the Women's Team are still hanging around.

Just happy for the team. Nice to have a positive story around SHU hoops, women or men.
