A year after my first meeting with Willard I was given an opportunity to visit SHU and meet our recently hired AD Pat Lyons.
After the disaster of meeting Willard the previous year and being blown off multiple times by our now dismissed AD Joe Quinlan who wanted absolutely nothing to do with me as Quinlan believed I was in the Gonzo camp, I wasn't exactly holding out high hopes.
I was in for a surprise.
I reached out to Lyons when he was initially hired to speak to him. His response was quick. "Sure, whenever you like but I suggest we hold off about two months so I can get my feet wet."
That made sense but of course I was skeptical after dealing with Quinlan. Wasn't sure if I was getting blown off or if Lyons would indeed see me.
To my surprise a few short months later Pat Lyons reached out to me and set a date in his office for 4PM on a Wednesday. Needless to say I was both surprised and happy. But still not knowing Pat and remembering the difficult times with his predecessor I wasn't sure what to expect.
