Seton Hall and Villanova to the Big XII?

Listening to Cardinal Tobin at graduation right now and not once, but twice, mentioned Seton Hall and Villanova as being members of the Big XII. He never once mentioned the Big East. Good grief.
Did he say Big XII athletic conference or just Big 12? Depending on the year and enrollment, Seton Hall is one of the 12 largest Catholic universities in the United States:

He may have been myopically referring to the 12 largest Catholic colleges, but any normal sports fan in America hearing the words Big 12 will assume the reference is to the Big 12 Conference.

I wonder how many alumni we have?If you take the past 55 years at conservatively 5,000 alumini per year that's 275,000.$6,000,000 per year NIL divided by 275,000 alumni thats $22 per year from each alumnus.Doesn't sound very good.Increasing, that to $100 per year would be $27M per year!

I realize this is crazy, non scientific math bur SHU ability to track alumni ,keep them engaged after graduation and generate contributions leaves a lot to be desired.

But if that same formula worked for all schools , we would still be near bottom of NIL among P5 schools as SHU probably bottom tier in size of alumni.

Well he mentioned that the Pope went to the wrong Big XII School and also mentioned basketball so I’m guessing he didn’t mean enrollment.

5,000 alumni per year isn't conservative, it's absurdly aggressive.

In recent years, the freshman class has been around 1,600 per year. Undergraduate enrollment for 2023-24 was about 6,100 -- which averages out to 1,525 per year.

If 75% graduate, that's 1,140 per year and I suspect that's on the high end.

That would get us to 60,000 alumni or about $100 per alumnus. Are you happy with that?Do you think SHU is doing a good job with developing alumni support? That is the essence of my question not the veracity of the numbers.

We are horrible at developing alumni support! Don’t believe me? Just look at our giving percentage, it sucks.

Heard Cardinal Tobin’s comments at the Commencement cermony as well. I had to chuckle. But he did mention that Pope Leo went to the wrong school, which was encouraging and funny.

At a time when the leadership of the University is woeful, and I mean woeful, Cardinal Tobin provides some hope which is needed right now for all SHU alumni and fans. On a bright note, spent some time on campus this weekend, and have to say the campus and facilities look great. We just need to figure out a way to get the Men’s Bball program adequately funded to compete.

Tobin has bigger things to worry about than getting the conference correct. He's got his plate filled with issues trying to run the Arch Diocese. I was lucky to spend 2.5 hours with him on a plane when he first took the job. He is a good man. He listened intently to what I was saying and sent me an awesome 2 page letter citing a lot of what we discussed and asking me to pray for him. Our conversation covered a myriad of topics not well addressed by our Catholic leaders. We also spoke about Seton Hall and he didn't seem to enamored with getting very involved as he had many large issues to deal with. Not sure how that has played out.

Some don't know but he's a power lifter. He wakes up early many mornings and lifts weights. He's pastoral and cares. He's made mistakes but I really like him. Some don't like him and I respect that, but i am sticking with my opinion. He has a sense of humor, comes from a big boisterous family and seems to understand the bigger issues. We could and have done a lot worse than having him as our Cardinal.
