Seton Hall: Stats to date

Some additional numbers below. This is the worst performance I have ever seen at The Hall. What a horrific job turned in by everyone.

And the one thing the team does reasonably well – shoot the 3 – we don’t like them doing and cannot offset how bad we are defending it. We are worse against allowing offensive rebounds than we are pulling them down despite the woeful shooting; same with getting to the line. The defense only looks good when we’re getting turnovers, it’s awful in straight sets which is surprising for Holloway, but likely more to the continued disconnect with the new group.

Offense
232nd in OE
326th in EFG%
307th in TO%
83rd in OR%
120th in FTA:FGA
129th in 3PT%
344th in 3PA:FGA
352nd in 2PT%
331st in FT%
304th in non-steal TO%

Defense
119th in DE
295th in EFG%
44th in TO%
102nd in OR%
302nd in FTA:FGA
276th in 3PT%
336th in 3PA:FGA
274th in 2PT%
75th in block%
50th in steal %
53rd in non-steal TO%

Sad. And we expect to win games? I still ask if he is not injured why aren't we playing the 7'2" kid? How much worse can the stats get if he plays 30 minutes? And why aren't all the lower classmen getting more playing time? The upper class players own these stats!

One of the reasons our 2point % is so bad is because we don't rebound offensively & rarely get easy put backs. You'd think an athletic team that misses a ton of shots could at least hit the boards.

Exactly. Nor do we create easy looks off player who can drive and dish or play with their back to the basket.

The coach gets paid a lot of money for player evaluation. I trust that if he thought that young man was ready to contribute in any way he would be playing. My own belief (sight unseen) is that he is so raw he makes our current crops of bigs look like Kareem, Wilt and Bill Walton.

As a lottery ticket, he's more valuable to us as a fifth-year senior, should he develop at all, than he is as an unplayable freshman. At this point in the season, I believe it's unfair to the player to burn his redshirt especially if there's no gain to the team.

As to your other point, our coach is paid to win games. Our best players are the ones who are generally playing the most. My own suspicion is that a lot of the players you want to see, won't be back next year for one reason or another. Several of them simply aren't good enough.

At 7' 2" all Sha has to have him do is run up and down the court and play a one man zone on "D" and rebound, block shots and offer some paint protection. Sha gave him a uniform so let the kid use it on the court! Red shirts are useless in this day of NIL. A waste. I can teach him to play center if we don't have any big man coaches and I would do it for free! If we have big man coaches where the H are they?

He can’t even do that right now at a D1 level.

that 2pt% is outrageous and definitely looks the part. from day 1 shoot around this team looked like they couldn't hit the ocean

Remind me how ready to play Romaro Gill was when he came here after spending two years at Vincennes Junior College.

Does it look like anyone playing center is doing anything commendable? So why not put the kid in. It is so bad at the center position that Sha has Prince playing there that is how bad it is.

It took two days for you to respond and ignore my question.

At my advanced age I'm lucky to get up every morning but I think I have earned the right to ignore and not answer from time to time. I'm also not on this forum everyday.

Piratz I would agree with you if I had not seen (and I posted the video days ago on this forum) of a clip of him playing in the low post, running up and down the court, blocking shots etc. and looked damn good. Oh and he played on an elite winning program that played very good competition. Sha also recruited him and gave him a jersey. So if the kid is a stiff then I need my eyes and head examined and so does Sha.

As a reminder, you're talking about a young man who scored 26 points in 12 (of 31 team) games as a high school senior, was lightly recruited and is a walk-on. He also weighs 190, lighter than all but four players on the roster. He will be manhandled (and probably is in practice given he gives at least 20 pounds to every big on the team).

Do not confuse Sha taking a flyer on a potentially developable talent -- who has played less basketball than our other projects -- with someone ready to contribute in any way. Much like Kevin and Grant took a chance on Ro Gill who gave us nothing his first year here because he was a redshirt, something virtually unheard of for a JUCO transfer.

More likely, Sha took a low-risk gamble on a player who with a lot of work and time might turn into something. That time is not now in my view.
