Sidney Cooks (Kenosha, Wis.) had a game-high 29 points and senior
Lauren Park-Lane (Wilmington, Del.) added 18 more as the Seton Hall women's basketball team routed Rutgers, 75-57, at Jersey Mike's Arena on Friday.
After a slow start, the Pirates used an 18-2 run in the second quarter to pull away from the Scarlet Knights and improve to 2-0 on the young season.
Cooks erupted for 29 points on 12-for-19 shooting, including 3-for-7 from three-point range. She also had 11 rebounds for her second consecutive double-double. Park-Lane had 18 points, on the strength of four made three-pointers, to go with a game-high eight assists.

Sha'Lynn Hagans (Manassas, Va.) finished with 12 points, while freshman
Shailyn Pinkney (East Hartford, Conn.) had 10 points, eight rebounds and three assists.
THE STORY:
Each team started out woeful offensively with both making just one of their first 10 shots. A three-pointer by Cooks gave The Hall a 14-10 advantage, but Rutgers closed the first quarter with seven of the final nine points to take a 17-16 lead after 10 minutes.
The second quarter, however, was all Seton Hall. The Pirates shot 68.8% in the second stanza and were 6-for-8 from three-point range, four of which came from Park-Lane. Trailing 19-18, The Hall went on a game-changing 18-2 run, and a layup by
Mya Bembry (West Orange, N.J.) gave the Pirates a commanding 36-21 advantage with 5:31 left before halftime. The Pirates eventually took a 44-31 lead into the break.
Trailing 55-34, Rutgers closed out the third quarter with an 8-0 run, keeping The Hall scoreless over the final 4:53. The Pirates, however, started the fourth quarter with a 12-1 burst, and a jumper by Cooks boosted their lead back to 67-45 with 6:42 remaining in the game. From there, the Scarlet Knights couldn't get closer than a 17-point deficit.
THE NUMBERS:
- Seton Hall was 28-for-67 (41.8%) from the floor for the game, while Rutgers was 20-for-64 (31.3%). The Hall was 11-for-30 (36.7%) from three-point range, while the Scarlet Knights were just 2-for-15 (13.3%).
- Cooks finished with 29 points on 12-for-19 shooting to go with 11 rebounds and a game-high three steals.
- The Hall edged Rutgers in rebounding, 46-to-45, but the Scarlet Knights had a 17-to-14 edge on the offensive glass and a 19-to-9 advantage in second-chance points.
- Park-Lane had 18 points on the strength of four made three-pointers to go with eight assists and two steals.
- Seton Hall was 8-for-13 (61.5%) from the free-throw line, while Rutgers was 15-for-23 (65.2%) after starting 11-for-11.
- Hagans had 12 points on 5-for-9 shooting to go with three assists.
- Seton Hall forced 13 turnovers, while Rutgers forced 10. The Hall had a 14-to-8 advantage in points-off-turnovers.
- Pinkney finished with 10 points, eight rebounds and three assists.
- Bembry grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds and had two assists and two blocks.
THE NOTES:
- Seton Hall improves to 2-0 on the young season, while Rutgers falls to 1-1.
- The Pirates are now 11-37 all-time against Rutgers.
- With eight assists tonight, Park-Lane becomes only the third player in Seton Hall history to record 500 for her career.
- Cooks' double-double is her second of the year and the 14th of her career, which leads all active Pirates.
- Cooks has now reached double-figures in scoring in 20 consecutive games dating back to last season.
- With 29 points tonight, Cooks surpassed the 1,300-points mark for her career.
- Hagans has now opened her Seton Hall career with back-to-back double-digit scoring games.
