the church is such a scam I love it. I love how it's complete fantasy land and so many people are brainwashed by it.

You know what Tom my uncle was gay and ignorant people like this guy wouldn't let him live in peace. People need to understand that just because Its on a message board you can't spew hate and homophobic crap like this. He's not a young kid based on the time he's been on the board. I'll figure it out the Internet is a wonderful thing...

Jimmy: I understand your point and am not criticizing you but I must enforce Rivals rules.

What are the rules on blocking homophobes Tom?

It depends on what the violation is and how offensive it is. It's my call or Dan's call. We usually give a warning. I do not see any reason for that on this thread. A person stating an opinion is a fair post whether you or I agree with it or not. We have banned people in the past for repeated racist, homophobic or ethnic attacks. We prefer that it does not come to that. I do not see any such post on this thread. My only comment to you was that we do not allow a poster to seek out another posters identity on this site. There is nothing else to discuss here regarding sanctions. If you want to comment further on the topic of this thread itself feel free to do so.

Tom the post which is
Jimmyd and the gay pirates has a ring to it. Keep your $20k and take gordon with you.

Is a homophobic as they come. You really want a guy posting this about potential recruits here? Trust me if I figure out who this homophob is, track him down on LinkedIn and send this to as many of his co-workers as I can find and I'll be a happy man. It's nice to have a mission even if it's against pirate crew rules...

Mods-

Once again I call on you to do your job and restrict this board to SHU hoops chat.

It's one thing to allow posts about other SHU sports, or former SHU hoopsters, but this post is full of half-truths, hate, doctrine-spouting fodder, and mostly worthless opinions from people whose opinion I could care less about. And this being a SHU HOOPS CHAT BOARD I should be free to read every post here without hearing the old catholics and the young catholics argue about what it means to be catholic.

Thanks be to God, finally the Church is starting to haul in clerics who lead the faithful astray. "Do you not know that the unjust will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators nor idolaters nor adulterers nor boy prostitutes nor sodomites nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor robbers will inherit the kingdom of God." 1 Cor.6:9-10

"...Basing itself on Sacred Scripture, which presents homosexual acts as acts of grave depravity, tradition has always declared that "homosexual acts are intrinsically disordered." They are contrary to the natural law. They close the sexual act to the gift of life. They do not proceed from a genuine affective and sexual complementarity. Under no circumstances can they be approved." (Catechism of the Catholic Church 2357).

Sorry, Catholicman, the church is wrong here, and our Pope would not agree with what you are saying. You can't put your head in the sand and ignore science, all in the name of mindless obedience.

“Faith and reason are like two wings on which the human spirit rises to the contemplation of truth; and God has placed in the human heart a desire to know the truth – in a word, to know himself – so that, by knowing and loving God, men and women may also come to the fullness of truth about themselves.” – Pope John Paul II - See more at: http://fallibleblogma.com/index.php...ason-are-like-two-wings/#sthash.dhKYaGfW.dpuf

I'm sure there's a great forum to discuss bible verses.

That was an early Church discipline. There is a distinction between a Church discipline and a doctrine. Disciplines can change. Doctrines do not.

Sorry, but statements like the above are perfect examples of institutional Catholic b***s**t. Church doctrines and disciplines....the difference between the two is irrelevant to 99.9% of the world. I left the Catholic Church many years ago because of its absurd rules and practices. Some decisions in life one regrets...not that one. And now an apparently beloved minister is sacked while many cardinals and bishops who closed their eyes to rampant child abuse still walk about wrapped in fancy robes and the illusion of piety. I hope Pope Francis lives long enough to effect significant radical change.

I think this thread has been hijacked from its original intent and has become a discussion on the Catholic Church and its doctrine and has no place on this sports board.

The original intent of the post was to bash the Catholic Church and Archbishop Myers. When a poster challenges that, then suddenly people want the whole thread gone. Perhaps the truth hurts. Meanwhile, Pope Francis's comment "who am I to judge" was not a repudiation of Church teaching on the sinfulness of homosexual acts. It had a particular context. Pope Francis was making the valid point that nobody can really know the degree of culpability a person living a sinful lifestyle is responsible for. Some have been sexually abused. Others struggle with anxiety-driven compulsions. Some were raised in extremely dysfunctional families. Only God can judge the degree of culpability involved in any sin. Nonetheless, God has revealed (and human reason can also understand) that certain kinds of behavior are harmful to the good of the human person. This is why God forbids it. Conscience is not divine. It must be formed. Those who make no attempt to form their consciences and act on an erroneous conscience cannot absolve themselves from culpability and re-write the rules. The terrorists who took down the World Trade Center were following an erroneous conscience.

The Catholic Church loves and safeguards human reason (which is at the heart of natural law theory). There is a perfect handshake of faith with reason. But Divine Revelation is superior--but not contradictory---to human reason. Ultimately the Catholic faith is a revealed religion. Therefore any priest who claims that there ought to be dialogue about Divinely revealed teachings which are unchanging is misrepresenting the very nature of the Church. Pastoral care of those who are wounded should be centered in the truth.

Enough already. This a sports board. If you want to argue religious issues take it elsewhere. I'm locking this thread.

It's Sunday, go preach off some pulpit. The Catholic Church still lingers in Medieval Times. Fortunately, many of its parishioners do not. Catholics make "self" choices. I was hoping Pope Francis would lead his flock into the 21st C.
Interested to hear what he will say when he visits the U.S. Think Myers will put him up in his mansion, or will he be too embarrassed to do so? Do not think Pope Francis lives quite so ostentatiously in Rome.

I thought the thread was getting locked. Lol.

May I point out once again that those disgusting priests and bishops were not pedophiles, they are homosexual predators.
