Earlier This Season:

Seton Hall 76, Providence 60 (F) – January 8, 2023 (Alumni Hall)

EARLIER THIS YEAR AGAINST PROVIDENCE

Hagans finished with 22 points on 7-for-13 shooting and was 3-for-5 from three-point range and a perfect 5-for-5 at the free-throw line. She also had six rebounds and four steals.

Lauren Park-Lane had 19 points and a game-high nine assists with only two turnovers, while Sidney Cooks tallied 18 points.

That's when Park-Lane took over. The Pirate point guard outscored Providence 8-0, including a pair of made three-pointers, to give The Hall a 51-37 lead with 5:08 left in the quarter. The Friars made another run late in the third, cutting their deficit to just five points with 1:34 to go, but The Hall closed the quarter with a 7-0 run, capped by a thrilling four-point play as Hagans was fouled while hitting a corner three-pointer as time expired.

SCOUTING PROVIDENCE

This year, the Friars were picked to finish eighth in the 11-team BIG EAST according to the Preseason coaches’ poll. Janai Crooms was named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team. Providence returns three starters from a year ago, but lost a pair of forwards Alyssa Geary and All-BIG EAST Second Teamer Mary Baskerville.

Providence is off to a 13-11 start overall and has a 4-9 mark in BIG EAST play. The Friars edged Xavier in Cincinnati on Jan. 28, 50-48, for their last win, but are coming off a hard-fought, 64-54, loss to No. 5 UConn on Wednesday.

A strong rebounding team, the Friars enter Saturday’s contest ranked third in the BIG EAST with a +3.6 rebounding margin. Providence ranks last in the BIG EAST with only 4.6 made three-pointers per contest.
