Sha’s Lack of Accountability

LOL calling me a troll because I disagree with the NIL take after losing to Fordham, Hofstra, and Monmouth this year. Nice.

How do we know that Kadary and Dre couldn’t wait to get away from this guy? Samuel ran far away too. Since NIL amounts aren’t publicly disclosed, we’ll have to assume that they left for bigger paydays than we couldn’t afford. Or at least that’s how Sha will always play it up.
youre a troll because you say NIL doesn't matter because we lost to fordham etc.

how do i know? because they could have transfered after their first year with sha and didnt. its long discussed on this board how much each player is making. you think Dre wanted to uproot his life (his gf and child in nj) to go play for the basketball mecca in * checks notes * mississippi?? we couldn't compete.

You know what was a historical snub? The 2019-2020 team because there wasn’t an NCAA Tournament.

Last year was not historical. Unfortunate? Yes. Historical? No.
so 2019 isn't even a snub?? troll. it was a historical snub for a big east team. how many 13 win big east teams were snubbed in the past? righttt

They couldn’t transfer for fear of having to sit out a year before all hell broke loose with the transfer portal. I thought you knew ball! 😂

13 win big east team. how many of those were snubbed. some might say it's the first time in ...
I agree we should’ve been in given who they put into the field but as much as we were snubbed- we equally deserved it having 12 losses.

Do with talent?

He didn’t make the NCAA tournament, the amount of wins and/or performance in the NIT is meaningless.
I’d say 13 Big East wins is a good measure of what Sha can do with a halfway decent roster. More times than not, that will get you into the tournament. Unfortunately last year it didn’t.

Sha’s been bad this year from the start. No hiding that. But the bigger problem is our lack of NIL. John Wooden’s ghost wouldn’t be able to coach this roster to a winning season.

no but i think the roster comstruction is on sha. he had a strategy, it was wildly wrong.

I think Sha is caught in his own hubris this year and can’t see the forest.

I think he thought he could coach up the young kids to another level. To find “diamonds in the rough” and prove his coaching acumen.

He’s getting severely burned by not having at least one truly strong alpha player. Two is really needed at this level.

This year is done.

But I believe that this waking nightmare is teaching him a bit more than he thought about having an idea of how players actually fit into a winning team scenario.

He has to make a sniper or two his no. 1 priority next year bar none. Over spend if you need to or pay for it yourself.

When has a 13 big east team ever had a ranking outside of the top 50 in every ranking? You can call it historical or whatever you want, but no KENPOM, RPI or NET had us in the top 50. I don't care what conference you're in if you're not in the top 50 there is no snub. You're on the bubble at best just hoping.

Hindsight is 20/20 and since Sha picked this roster with his limited resources, it would be interesting to see what ponying up and pairing one very good player like say I dunno, Dre Davis would have looked like with Coleman. I won’t bring up Kadary because my gut tells me that money isn’t the only reason he was never coming back.

So give me Dre and Coleman and he could have had something. Now Coleman’s price tag will go through the sky so his best bet will be retaining as many of these hopes and prayers as possible to put around Coleman (God willing we can afford him) for the sake of cohesion.

Bottom line is the program is in a much worse place than when Sha took over and it doesn't appear there is an answer/solution. Blame NIL, blame the portal, blame the assistants, blame the AD. You can even blame the monsignor. Bottom line is this has got to get fixed soon or the gravy train will be coming to a screeching halt.
Last night was some of the ugliest basketball I've ever seen. As I suspected, Georgetown still sucks.

this is so stupid. every coach is hired with the same goal, to win as much as possible. what an absurd spin.
As much as possible. That standard is different at every school. That number is very different at Seton Hall than Kansas. 3 big east wins this year might be as many as possible. Should we say great job he won as as many games as possible if we get there?

Honestly Fordham probably had better/more NIL than us and Hofstra probably close… so that’s for the Sha psychos here (who are really the old crazy anti KW crowds but that’s whatever)

I have a question..what was Shas rosters NIL value last year? Or the year before? And what were the results?

We are atrociously behind in NIL, but we’ve also been atrociously behind the last 25 years in anything athletics. Sha has serious red flags..bottom line hope he figures it out and he’s with us for a decade

Also, KW first two years were in a MUCH MUCH tougher Big East and he was 2 Theodore FTs away from making that tourney doesn’t he get credit for that the same way sha gets credit from some with “the snub”

And, NO ONE cares about the E8 St. Peter’s run..it’s not our school..he should have capitalized on that and brought in monster recruits that year and he didn’t..case closed

Remember people here said he was the single hottest coaching in America and that we were going to lose him to the “big fish” ha

and how did all those mountain west teams fare with similar rankings?

I think this is exactly right, and it's funny how it tracks the same pattern as Kevin Willard, who looked like a good coach with Gonzo's players, copped a big ego and thought he could outcoach everyone despite a team full of Canary Islands players, and found out in a hurry that it doesn't work that way in the Big East. To his credit, Willard learned his lesson and the school helped him get better players (by giving him the freedom to hire Tiny Morton). Let's hope the same happens here.

Amen. No one cares what Sha did at St. Peters. I only care about what he does here

Maybe I misjudged our talent preseason, or relied too much on past rankings, but the difference as I see it is that this team doesn't have the "Canary Islands profile".

We have numerous kids who were ranked in the top 100 out of prep, some well within that band. Others coming from high majors. Others that were successful at the mid-major level.

yup, but now it seems we essentially just cherry picked the proven busts.

I don't think adding Dre (and removing either or both of Aligbe and Toumi as a corresponding move) does all that much for this team. Davis is clearly a better option but we have so many issues that he doesn't help.

We still have nobody who can initiate offense and get the scorers the ball.

Given how our games have played out, maybe we're fortunate enough to win a couple more games, but we're still not a good team.

These posts are where we’re at, I think. Forget the obvious player acquisition issues and NIL. Just look at the team playing. The current team looks so fragmented and player moves so desperate.

No coach has a linear career. Sha did wonders at SPU and was welcomed home a conquering hero. He’s going to be embarrassed to have ushered in a 3-17 type of season. Hell, even 6-14. That’s his record. His watch.

Portal rankings are the new HS rankings. We got zero top 100 portal kids. We took several outside the top 250.

We also lost 2 top 75 portal kids, including arguably the #1 player.

I hear you. I thought Dual and Middleton, at least, were ranked by some lists as being within the top 100 on "portal lists".

Still, the performance to date comes as a surprise to many of us because of what we thought about Dual, Middleton, etc based on rankings that weren't that "stale" and based on what folks with more "inside" connections were feeding the board based on feedback from the staff on these kids.

But it wouldn’t be worse. I’ll tell you that much. We could work inside out. Dre was great with his back to the basket and could also shoot from outside. He rebounded. He made free throws. He defended. He was a dog. Right now it’s Coleman having to do it all and with exactly zero competent players around him, it could never work.

Sha is always quick to point the finger at anyone but himself. The players, his assistants, the refs, NIL, etc. It’s time for him to man up and take accountability for this program and his actions. He has shown no leadership whatsoever in taking ownership for our results as a program .
Sha says “ we just ran out of time I guess. I don’t know”? What kind of half ass comment is that from a head coach. Guess he needs to look at more tape? How about he take responsibility for a poorly drawn up play where we didn’t even get a shot off. (And to clarify for the head coach, when the clock says all zeros, yes you ran out of time, just drop the “I guess”. )

my mistake you are right. i think coleman might have been inbounding the previous play or was at least down there at some point
Coleman was set to inbound before we called the timeout, once we came out of TO Middleton was the inbounder.

They were outside the top 50 because of a poor OOC showing.

With the same players that he coached up and got to play better as the year went on, resulting in the 13 conference wins.

The Sha supporters are making the argument that he will NEVER, based on NIL, be able to keep his roster together year over year and develop a winning team in his mold.

By the time they buy in or get much better (Dawes, Bediako, and Richmond) they are out of eligibility or are off to the highest bidder.

I’ll argue that even in the old system he’d have higher than average turn over negated some of what you say

Obviously it’s a huge problem but it wouldn’t be zero without nil

Amazing how we keep running circles on this hamster wheel.

Sha did not lose Kadary, Dre, Dawes, or Wusu because there was the rule that you would still have to sit out a year if you transferred again. They weren’t willing to roll the dice like some players did. I would bet that if they knew they didn’t have to sit out they wouldn’t be here last year if they had a larger offer on the table.

Samuel had a choice to stay his Covid year and left for more money.

Kadary left, Dre left, Wusu even thought he had more value on the open market.

With the NIL budget Sha has had to work with, he has gotten guys like Femi, KC, Dawes, Bediako, EHE, and the current roster in place.

Please tell me who on this list was in high demand and being recruited by our competitors in the BE?
