With RV/#24 Seton Hall trailing by one and time ticking away, graduate guard Ka-Deidre Simmons came up with the shot of the year for the Pirates, as she took on the DePaul University defense, drew contact and found a way to get a floater in the paint to drop with three seconds remaining as SHU bested DePaul 81-80 in a wild battle first place in the BIG EAST on Friday night in Chicago.

The top-seeded Seton Hall University women's basketball team will battle No. 2 seed DePaul in the BIG EAST Championship finals on Tuesday night at Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Ill., at 8:00 p.m. (ET). The game will be nationally broadcast on Fox Sports 1.

Seton Hall, which has advanced to the BIG EAST finals for the first time since 1995, is looking to make history, as the program has never won the BIG EAST Tournament. The Pirates are 0-3 all-time in BIG EAST Championship tilts, and SHU will be facing the defending champion DePaul Blue Demons during postseason action for the first time.

Standing in the way of an automatic NCAA berth for The Hall is BIG EAST Player of the Year Brittany Hyrnko and the co-regular season champion DePaul Blue Demons. This will be the third meeting of the season between these two squads.

In the first matchup in South Orange, The Hall scored 107 points and beat the Blue Demons by 20 in what was its first-ever win over DePaul in BIG EAST play. Seton Hall broke the program's single-game scoring record and topped 100 points for the third-time in its history and the first since 1987.

The second game in Rosemont was one of the Pirates' most exciting of the year. Graduate guard Ka-Deidre Simmons came through in the clutch for the Pirates, as she found a way to get a floater in the paint to drop with three seconds remaining as SHU bested DePaul 81-80 in a wild battle.

The final 36 seconds of action saw a frenetic pace that feature three lead changes. Seton Hall found itself down by four approaching three minutes to play when Jessica January hit a jumper at 3:24, only to see Tabatha Richardson-Smith answer with a three on the other end to cut the SHU deficit to one, setting up Simmons' heroics during the final possession.

In semifinal action on Monday, Seton Hall bested St. John's 72-60 Simmons led the way with 20 points and eight assists. DePaul outlasted the Villanova Wildcats, 58-55, as the `Cats had a chance to tie the game on the final possession but misfired on a pair of 3-point attempts.

With impressive regular season resumes, both teams figure to be locks for NCAA Tournament at-large berths regardless of the outcome on Tuesday night. Seton Hall and DePaul play similar styles with an emphasis on getting out in transition and creating defensive pressure.

Following the loss at Seton Hall, DePaul knew it had to shore up its defensive intensity, and that progress was apparent in the second meeting, which saw the Pirates score just 81 points, but the Blue Demon offense stalled late in the game. After leading by as many as 18 points in the first half, DePaul hit nine field goals in the second period, shooting 4-of-19 from 3-point range after drilling 13 triples in the first half.

Seton Hall has been able to match DePaul's 3-point proficiency because of the play of Richardson-Smith and Janee Johnson. Over the past two weeks, Richardson-Smith is averaging 3.8 3-pointers per game, while Johnson came up with four long-range buckets in the first half against St. John's on Monday night.

In both wins this year the Pirates managed survive a hot shooting start and pull away from DePaul in the second half, outscoring the Blue Demons 88-62 over the final 20 minutes so far this year.

SETON HALL STATUS

Seton Hall will play in the BIG EAST Championship game for the first time since 1995 thanks to a 72-60 win over St. John's on Monday night. The Pirates ` limited St. John's to 0-of-8 shooting from 3-point range and the Red Storm never scored more than four-consecutive points.
Graduate point guard Ka-Deidre Simmons tied her own SHU record of eight assists in a BIG EAST Tournament game, a mark she set just the day before in the win over Marquette.
After knocking down eight 3-pointers in the first half against St. John's, Seton Hall did not hit a three during the second period, but shot 56.7 percent (17-of-30) from the field.

DEPAUL STATUS

DePaul survived a close battle with Villanova on Monday night, edging the Wildcats 58-55. Villanova had two chances to tie the game during its last possession but was unable to get a three to drop.
The Blue Demons are looking to capture back-to-back BIG EAST Tournament titles after beating St. John's in last year's championship game.
Megan Podkowa posted a double-double with 22 points and 10 rebounds in the win over Villanova in the semifinals.

LAST TIME VS. DEPAUL

Seton Hall swept the regular season series with DePaul for the first time. In fact, prior to this season, the Pirates had never beaten the Blue Demons during BIG EAST play.
In South Orange, Seton Hall scored a school-record 107 points in a 20-point win. Tabatha Richardson-Smith turned in a monster performance in that game, finishing with 35 points and 15 boards.
The Pirates trailed by as many as 18 points in the game at DePaul last month, but they came back to pick up a one-point win in dramatic fashion. After a Brittany Hrynko three with fewer than 10 seconds remaining, Ka-Deidre Simmons got a runner to drop at the other end to give SHU a one-point win.
Seton Hall is averaging 9.5 3-pointers for game against DePaul and the Pirates have shot north of 50.0 percent from the field in both meetings this year.

PIRATES IN FIRST CHAMPIONSHIP GAME IN TWO DECADES

Seton Hall has advanced to the BIG EAST championship game for the first time since 1995.
The Pirates are 0-3 all-time in the BIG EAST Championship game. The Hall lost to Connecticut in 1994 and 1995, and to St. John's back in 1984.
None of the members of Seton Hall's freshman class had been born the last time the Pirates played in the BIG EAST Championship game.

BIG EAST SEMIFINAL NOTABLES

Seton Hall beat St. John's 72-60 to advance to the BIG EAST championship game for the first time since 1995. SHU had been eliminated from the last two BIG EAST Tournaments by St. John's.
Seton Hall is now 4-2 all-time in BIG EAST semifinal matchups.
The win over St. John's was the second in a row and the first time since 2003-04 SHU beat the Red Storm in consecutive meetings.
Ka-Deidre Simmons tied her own BIG EAST Tournament record of eight assists, which she set during the quarterfinal round. Her 32-career assists at the BIG EAST Tournament are a program record.
Seton Hall had not won two games at the BIG EAST Tournament since 1996.

SETTING A NEW STANDARD

With its win over St. John's in the BIG EAST semifinals on March 9, Seton Hall picked up its 28th win of the year, establishing a new SHU single-season record.
The previous single-season standard was 27 wins, set by the 1993-94 team that advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16.
The 28 wins this year surpass the 27 combined victories the Pirates had in the three previous seasons prior to Anthony Bozzella taking over the program.

THREE-POINT PRECISION

Over the past two weeks, junior Tabatha Richardson-Smith has been deadly from 3-point range.
The Pirates' all-time 3-point leader is averaging 23.8 ppg over the past four games, while making 3.8 3-pointers per game.
Richardson-Smith has made a least four 3-pointers in three of the last four games, and she is shooting 15-of-32 (46.9 percent) from 3-point range during that stretch.
In BIG EAST Tournament play, Richardson-Smith is averaging 23.0 ppg and shooting 7-of-17 (.412) from three.

KEY DISTRIBUTOR

Ka-Deidre Simmons holds Seton Hall's all-time and single-season assist records, and has really been finding her teammates over the last two weeks.
In the last four games, Simmons has recorded eight assists three times, and is averaging 7.5 assists per game.
Simmons has 183 assists this year, and single-season record, and an SHU record 551 in her career.
