shu - lbsu game thread

Got home late and missed the first half. What's going on with Delgado? I don't know if I've seen him on the court.

Congrats to all of you who thought we would walk over LBS. you must've forgotten who's coaching SHU.

But I thought this was the year we were really gonna get after it on defense.....

Box out the shooter
that was a total pathetic effort, prep and execution; whitehead can't dominate the ball on offense, he should not be the primary ball handler or pg, he needs to play off the ball; guys like gordon can't go to the line for 2 ft and not make one later in the second half; no perimeter defense, no ball screen defense, boxing out is weak; very possible shu may not win this weekend, play bradley fri then worst team from top half sunday; i think this board would be in total crisis mode if shu loses at rutgers; with what i see, will be a long season ahead

Nice comeback but no one boxed out the shooter on the foul line. Would have been down one with a chance to hit a 2 or 3 to win.

Neither defense nor offense very strong - Long Beach State executed on offense all game long. Can only hope the team gets stronger with more game experience.

Folks, I don't care how much talent this team may have, we do not have a coach. How can a coach that is emphasizing defense allow Long Beach St to shoot at 60%. It is ridiculous.

At least there won't be any false expectations for this season to make the tournament.

Box out or not, Gordon still had that ball. Just let the other guy take it from him. Thought we might steal that one.

Yes helps to actually grab the ball with TWO hands when rebounding. Perhaps even more so when down one with six seconds left.

Gordon had a bad game - Seton Hall defense pathetic. Useless gimmick defense - just play solid man for a change.

The box out is important. We don't do the little things that win games. We don't move the ball, we don't move without the ball, and we don't box out. I'm not giving up on this team, we've seen teams in our past have great starts then blow it and teams start off slow then get rolling, but we need to commit to better team defense and better fundamentals.

Was this an example of "Coaching your ass off" or "Coaching with your head in your ass"???

Why did Willard start putting in subs 3 1/2 minutes into the game in the 1st half when we were on a run and controlling the tempo + forcing them into turnovers? Were we too hot? Were things going too well?

He is terrible.

Can we swap Head Coaches with LBS, will include our AD (like the package deal they already are). Willard has to go.

I missed a lot of the 1st half. By the time I had walked into my house they said LB went on a 10-0 Run??

The last play of the 1st half was just huge because it carried over into the first part of the 2nd half. If our
offense lacked structure in the past then we may have gone backwards. Dribble,Dribble,Dribble and
make a move. I was concerned with Delgado tonight. Not sure what was happening. I watched, but
my attention went to the Women who were giving a nice effort against Princeton at Walsh.

Some credit for not giving up but that was hardly a furious defensive effort. This season can go in many
directions, but that is RedFlag#1

It's a losing basketball mentality with the men's program. I really don't have any idea who can change the culture here but I do know it ain't Kevin Willard.

"Coaching your ass off" should be in Willards case "Coaching ass your off"

We only played 7 guys according to the box score. I'm going to give Willard some credit here and say that was part of the plan. And you can't have the starting 5 playing 10 straight minutes and wanting a breather at the same time. You have to manage the game for 40 minutes not just for a hot start.

Nzei, gordon, carter and Anthony all played off the bench. I could watch very little and couldn't listen to some. Angel got benched? Why?
