SHU Women At Creighton

Creighton battling back- Pirates up by 11 at the half. 48-37 .

Were up by as much as 23.

De Falco at the Half-" we got lazy but we'll do fine".

What confidence. No doubt Tony will give one of those " start hustling or you'll be walking to NJ from Omaha" speeches.

When Tiff got into foul trouble and Gordon/Powell needed a breather CU started to make their run.

This is now a 4 point game.

Make it 6 point game.

Unreal.

How about we cover their shooters??

SHU only up 1

Now up by 4. Kena hit a deep 3.

CU with final shot of 3rd. Hit a 3. Now SHU up 1.

CU's 4/5 player is lifting us up. Must have 25. With 4 or 5 3pt shots.

We wer outscored by 10 in the 3rd.

I bet we lost this one. And lose our ranking as well.

65-65 with 9 minutes left.

Missed 3, missed layup and then a foul. On the same possession after giving up a 3.

74-67 Pirates now.

Tab has scored 5 straight I think. Including a deep 3.

23 points for Tab now.

And I broke a rocks glass while cleaning glasses for tonight.

Ugh! Lol.

74-71 SHU right now... I think.

Kena with another 3... 77-71 with about 4 minutes left.

Tiff Jones just fouled out. CU with 3pt play. 79-74.

Byrne, Kuderer, Tab, Kena & Leesha in the game.

81-78 with 1:40 left. This freshman for CU is unreal.

Turnover Tab.

Richardson just fouled a driving player. 2 free throws coming.

81-80 SHU

Aleesha Powell drew a blocking foul.

2 FTs for Leesha with about 50-55 seconds left.

Leesha made both 83-80. CU ball 40 left.

Foul on Mosley.

CU at the line for double bonus.

83-82. A 50% ft shooter for CU is 5-5 this quarter.

83-82. 35 seconds left.

CU fouled Powell immediately.

Powell hit the first. Powell hit the second.

SHU up 3 with 25 left.

CU missed 2 from 3.

Powell got the rebound.

Foul on CU now they are reviewing to see if Powell conjured a flagrant foul (apparent elbow to the defenders face - SOU color guys think it was an acting job by CU player.)

WSOU guys mention nothing about the refs review.

Powell made 1/2... 4pt game.

We win 86-82.

Idk what to think of this game.

Hopefully Tab broke out of her rut. Scored like 27.

Hall escapes with that win on the road. TRS was excellent in the 4th. Powell was fantastic at the line to preserve the game.

The last play could have been an issue if Powell would have hit the Creighton player. There really wasn't
anything there and the refs made the correct decision. Hall was up by 3 and Powell got fouled with the defensive rebound.

Very impressed with Creighton's outside shooting and at the free throw line. They look to be very well coached.

It worked out for Tony having that extra timeout, but I don't understand why he doesn't use any timeouts when the other teams are going on big runs. I thought he should have used a TO when Creighton cut the lead from 23-17 in the first half. I don't believe SHU ever called a TO and the lead went to 8. I guess that's his philosophy and we've seen that before this season.

This would have been a tough loss, but they took care of business. The gals came out on fire today and looked every bit a top 25 team. TRS's focus was terrific and I thought she was the difference.

Win any way you can on the road, even when you blow a huge early lead.

Powell was super clutch by hitting 5-6 FT in the last two minutes.

TRS had a great game, playing 40 min., scoring 27, playing great D and looking so much more focused.

How about that dive the Creighton player took in the last four seconds? She must be a soccer player.

They're 12-1, 2-0 and heading home for two, first on Sunday and then a huge game Tuesday night against DePaul. Let's pack the house.

Go Pirates! Happy New Year!

Thanks Dan... Chuck got the tickets, thank you. Hope all is well.

Tab, after today, is now 7th in all time steals at SHU and also ecplised 1,500 points against Prov.

I actually think the early threes caused us to lose our focus on the game plan and then Creighton's Audrey Favor went unconscious. This was the worst lead surrender so far. Bet there will be ton to learn when studying the tapes.

Creighton has two players who shoot 50 percent on threes. That's crazy. When you shoot 40 it's considered very good.

Any team like than can come back if you let up an inch.

Incidentally, Richardson was outstanding controlling and distributing the ball. She also hit several clutch shots.

That lead went quick. Lol I think there is a good teaching tool on defense as the Creighton
players would only drive to the right. At some point you have to cheat to the opposing player's right
and force them to go left. In addition do the refs have to call a foul on 5 consecutive trips in the last
3 minutes? Yes, two or three were fouls, but the last couple were bailouts it seemed. I notice that in the Women's game the refs call clusters of fouls down the stretch.

Bozzella interview now up on the Trove.

I'll post tidbits here tomorrow.

NYCP the phenomenon you describe is typical. In that last stretch, two of the three were somewhat questionable, one was a foul, and the other two were photoshop miracles (nothing originally there).

Tony needs to figure out why his team often wilts in the fourth quarter and lets teams back into the game after dominating them. Maybe he needs to use more of his bench.

2 of his major bench players are hurt. Prob his 6th and 8th players.

Thus game was more of a 2nd/3rd quarter wilt.

Thought more about this. If Tony had Inman and/or Egan, he would have used them a lot in this game. Either of them would have put a clamp on Favor and Lamberty. The supporting evidence is that he did not use Molyneaux (tall and interior) but he did use Kuderer (small and more mobile) more than I expected. Putting it all together, he did not have either of the two players he needed the most in the game.

I hope Martha gets more defensive experience before we see Creighton again.
