So which is it?

Let's put it like this. Those allergies are killing Americans. A kid could die from a peanut allergy. I should know the answer off the top of my head. And I don't. It's that big of a deal. So if you're worried about grandma and Covid-19 and the word needs to spread like wildfire to protect grandma, well I would hope you would have the same concern for that kid, but I hear crickets on that front.

I'm not concerned about allergies because I think we were correct to help mitigate the risks of Covid?

Really? You realize that doesn't make any sense at all, right?

You seemed to be placing blame on Fauci because of an increase in the prevalence of food allergies, so I am trying to understand where that is coming from.

I'm not blaming him for food allergies, but what's he done for all immune deficiencies. I'm asking what has he done about them? In 40 years it continues to get worse and worse. Auto immune diseases like autism are sadly on the rise. What's he doing about those types of diseases?

Have you looked into his research and publications?

His background for the last 40-50 years is in infectious disease and you think he should have solved allergies.
I just don't understand where your criticism comes from other than it must be his fault because he is an immunologist.

He is the director of NIAID. What does NIAID stand for? When you answer that I'll say the answer is yes he should be solving allergies.

ok, I am done with this. Clearly going no where.
Fauci didn't cure allergies so we can't trust him on anything. Got it.

It was going somewhere not where you wanted it. You asked a question what does Fauci have to do with allergies as if he has nothing to do with them. You clearly didn't know he was the director of the National Institute of Allergies and Infectious Disease. Now that you do, it's not a good look for Fauci as allergies have grown exponentially under his watch.

No it's just silly. You have no idea what his impact was on allergies. You have no idea of the studies that were occurring while he was director. You have no consideration of the fact that the prevalence of allergies was increasing prior to Fauci becoming director. You just see an outcome and say it was under his watch with no regard for if any of the actions he took at director had an actual impact positively or negatively.

Maybe he made things worse than they would have been.
Maybe he made things better than they would have been.

You have no idea though.

Nice pivot. you basically told me he has no reason to be involved with allergies now he's got years of studies. Nice.

Based on that the Life Off The Ship message board is a waste. Do you know everything that goes on behind closed doors? Do you know everything Trump knows when making a decision? You're being 100% hypocritical to your years of posting anything on this board. You should never bash Trump or anyone again because you don't know everything they know just like I don't have my hands on every study Fauci did. Same logic.

What I do know. If his time ended today as director of National Institute of ALLERGIES and Infectious Disease ended today, we are not in a better place than when he started in a lot of very critical areas.

bottom line if I need to have my hands on documents that Fauci did to criticize him, you should be held to the same standard on Trump. I’ll concede but don’t blast Trump anymore unless you have all the documentation on your desk.

No, I was trying to understand your strong opinion on Fauci. That's all.

You asked "when was he ever right" - implying he is always wrong.
I responded that he has been reasonable in how he handled this pandemic and you responded by saying that we can't trust him because he was the director on the NIAID and more people have allergies today.

I think that is quite a stretch without understanding if he actually had an impact on outcomes there.

I’ll give Fauci this: He’s very effective in front of the camera, because he gives the appearance and tone of being credible. He has pivoted and changed his position constantly. As an expert he’s really not fit the bill.

Almost like he was able to take in new information and use that information to create a new assessment?

IMO, Fauci and Gottlieb are proving the most sound and measured assessments and recommendations.

You certainly seemed to praise him early on. "I like this expert until I disagree with them"?

lol....Your opinion never changed about someone as you got a larger sampling of information and experience with them??? As I said, Fauci is good in front of a camera....but he has proven to be much less of a reliable expert. I still think Gottlieb and Brix are very good though.

I'm not trying to place him on a pedestal or anything, I just don't understand the criticisms from what I have seen.

It seems more that he has lost favor with people when he started taking the virus more seriously.
That is why I am trying to understand what specifically people are taking issue with.

Saying he is much less reliable is fine, but do you have an example?

There’s plenty examples in this and previous threads about him. I’m not totally trashing him, but he’s certainly not been as good as originally advertised.

Fauci is top dog in his field.

Reasons for my strong opinion.

Every year.
1. Autism is on the rise.
2. Food allergies on the rise.
3. Seeing more kids with inhalers at sports games.
4. In general disease has gotten out of control in this country.
5. We never hear about any holistic approaches. Has anyone discussed natural antivirals like oil of oregano on Covid?

those were happening before he got there. You have no idea what his impact was positively or negatively.

Could just as easily suggest he got rid of the aids epidemic... but I wouldn’t do that because I have no idea of what impact he has had there. The first time I heard of him was a few months ago and have been following him since then.

I think he has done a decent job, and I thought he was doing a decent job even though I disagreed with his early assessments.

To put this in sports terms...PJ had to change the course of the program. It may have taken time, but eventually it got better. Fauci has been there 40 years where’s the reason to hope? Because he’s a calming presence at the podium? No thanks.

Your opinion of him has absolutely nothing to do with his 40 year tenure.

It has to do with the last 2 months and you don’t like what he is saying.

Dr. Tony Fauci, MD is credible in my book. I will continue to practice what DR Fauci has asked Americans to practice. Just stay home! I haven't left my home since March 16. My friends who are risking their lives are buying groceries for me and I am thankful for you them. I will continue to stay indoors until this pandemic is over. I will then gradually go back outside with a hazmat suit on.

I’ve been complaining about the health of this country on different threads for years. That’s a fact. The last 2 months hasn’t changed my opinion one bit.

wow. Didn’t realize the NIAID was responsible for the health of the entire country.

I have good news. US life expectancy has increase by more than 5 years since Fauci started working there.
Well done Dr Fauci! HUGE SUCCESS!

yes that is sarcasm, and just as silly as blaming him for all of the problems you see.

many of my issues with the health of the country fall under NIAID but not all of them. All of our leaders, medical and political, are at fault and Fauci is one of them.

Dr Tony Fauci MD is one of the most successful men in this country. I trust him with my life. Its sad people on this board are trying to tear this man down.

You realize you’re just making stuff up though, right?

You see a problem and need to find somewhere to place blame without any consideration for the things that might have improved quite a bit under his tenure?

I really don’t have a strong opinion of him, I just think it’s odd how certain people turned on him so quickly once he started taking the virus more seriously.

Go back to when he started at his job. How many people had nut allergies, celiac, and all of these other new diseases? What good has he done to prevent that? He's an immunologist and we have more diseases now than when he started.

Wait....Dr. Fauci is responsible for the health of America?? LOL A tall order. And for preventing diseases??

Well....find me that guy who can do that...only one I can think of was around about oh....2000 years ago...

Yeah don't take the bait. They throw out things like "why don't we care about cancer? Why the focus on COVID?" knowing it is useless spew designed to take the topic off track...obviously they have no argument to be made.

I love people who expect other people to solve all the world's problems..like "cure allergies"! Yeah, sure give me a week.....lol

Or "what has he done to...XXX?" Well... I bet they don't know 1 thing that he or the agency has done. And...I don't know the man, nor does he need me to be his apologist....but I can spew many baseless things on here too, knowing full well there is no way to research what I say, one way or anotehr....and declare "victory!

Not worth the time...

What are you talking about. Your boy asked me what Immunologist Fauci has to do with allergies? He is the director of NIAID. The A stands for Allergy. I don’t blame Fauci for the entire countries health but he’s a part of it. So are the politicians. So are the pharmaceutical lobbyists. So are the food lobbyists. But when the hell as Fauci stood up to those people. Guarantee he hasn’t because he would be fired. He’s part of the problem.

Please. I have just as much inside knowledge on Fauci as you have on Trump. I see the results and I’ve never heard of different approaches to combat allergies, intolerances and chronic disease that our country has. Give me a reason for hope. Give me a reason to believe he’s doing a good job. I’ll listen. As I’m sure you know I was a big fan of our player development when our team was losing. I saw reason to be optimistic. I haven’t seen anything from our leading doctors or politicians to make this country healthier. And Fauci is in that group. Give me a reason to be optimistic.

Very bad decision, Mr. Governor! A new wave will begin in NJ from the middle of June forward because of this decision. I have been spot on about the virus and I will continue to be. When we look back at the end of June this will decision will be looked back at. STAY SAVE LIVES! So we can have a memorial day next year.

Reputable expert? The guy who put in the food pyramid was a supposed reputable expert. That’s done nothing but hurt people and help the medical industry profit. Maybe if people were exposed to more germs we would have stronger immune systems. I have no trust in people who’ve spent a career in politics

But the food pyramid guy was a supposed expert!
