He seems to shoot the 3 ball with confidence and he has a sweet stroke.

Veer has been shooting 26.3% from 3 with 1 assist to 8 turnovers and 2.75 pts/game in big east play.

He is willing to shoot the 3 but often looks like he is playing without confidence in all other aspects of his game ( a shot fake and one dribble almost always leads to a turnover and on defense you often see teammates physically moving him to the direction of the man he's supposed to be guarding).

I expect Veer to be a valuable commodity in the future but he definitely has room for improvement. I also think Veer could very well have a big performance that helps us win a crucial game down the stretch.

But I'd also like to see what Soffer could do with some of Veer's minutes.

Hard to tell from the very limited minutes he has seen, but doesn't seem to be able to play defense anywhere close to this level, and ballhandling looks suspect. He will have to work really hard to make it at the Big East level. Only thing he can do at this point is shoot the three and that's not enough. Not trying to knock him, but he is going to have to be a gym rat to raise his game.

He had a block last night. Didn't he?

HallB, I hear what you're saying but I'm asking him to take a few minutes from Veer not Desi...

Defenses smell blood when Veer pump fakes and puts it on the court. I wouldn't say Veer is horrible on d but he's not good and often gets mixed up on switches.

Coming in knocking down threes at a better rate than 26.3% could jump start our offense, which struggles with shooting at times.

I don't know that he'll be more productive but I think it would be worth a try.

Veer has a long way to go to be a complete player. Soffer is miles behind that.

These are longer term development players that hopefully will develop into solid, productive pieces in the years ahead. Nothing wrong with that and actually quite helpful to a program if they develop.

Are you serious? You don't think the guards in the Big East would feast on him? This ain't California suburbs basketball we're playing in. I'm not sayinghe doesn't have a sweet 3, but Veer has the size to compete with these guys right now. He's simply lacking confidence at the moment, but the potential is clearly there...Soffer, just saying he has a long way to go, not that he can't get there.

I just enjoyed the fan jumping up and down on the court after he hit his first and second three. Was that his Dad? If so what a treat. He seemed very excitied and it was fun to watch.

hallb depends on the matchup..
Providence: do i think Lomomba, Lindsay, Edwards, and Fazekas would feast on Soffer... No not really.

Do I think a defensive group of Whitehead, Gordon, Soffer, Ish, and Delgado would be completely exposed for the 2-3 minutes they would be on the court? No not really but i guess it would depend on the match up.

As you mentioned Veer doesn't appear to be playing with confidence. I just think it's possible that in the next month Soffer could play better than Veer. Neither of us can say for sure because he hasn't been given the chance.

Agreed. He looked lost on defense and on offense all he did was stand in the corner and let everyone else create a shot for him. Not a knock on the kid because he is a freshman who never gets to play, but he is miles behind any guard who is starting in the BE and getting decent minutes, and behind Veer by at least a little (though Veer has had more court time to work).

How do we know Soffer is miles behind Singh? Because Willard won't play him?

I'll believe that our coach who sees him every day in practice knows what are and are not his limitations. Clearly, if he could play, he'd be in the game since our 3 point shooting is likely at the bottom of the conference (although I have not researched the stats to verify).

Veer and Dalton need to improve in certain aspects-especially defense. That's what the summer is about.
They are both good shooters so that part is in the bank.
They are also good teammates, have terrific attitudes and will be good for the program long term.
It's up to the coaches to get the most out of them.

Singh has not been as good as most of us thought he would this year. But am I wrong in thinking he was the starting three before he got hurt?

Willard sees these guys every day in practice. My guess is that Soffer can't guard any of our typical starting guards. But, if you can get him open on the wing, he can probably shoot close to 40%.

Would probably be a great fit playing in the Patriot League, or at a West Coast school like St. Mary's. He is an easy kid to like though. Wonder if he doesn't mind riding the pine and getting garbage minutes. Something tells me he kind of likes his role.

He does seem like a good kid, and great for the bench right now, but I sure hope he doesn't like his role. Then he should be at a smaller school if that is the case. I think you meant that he has a good attitude about his role on the team, but I definitely hope he doesn't like it.

Be the first to admit I am shocked how bad a year Singh has had. Really thought he was going to be a big contributor this season. He just can't get anything going. Total funk.

No way should Singh start over Desi at 3. Not now or at the beginning of year. Hell, Desi should have started at the 3 last year.

I expected Singh to be a bit more consistent with his shooting though and be a solid 7th or 8th man off bench.

Right now the team is making it's bones playing defense and rebounding. Singh so far has done neither. I don't know about Soffer's D but to get minutes that's what it should take.

I think Singh will turn out to be a decent player for us over the course of his 4 years here. Is he a Big East starting worthy player; probably not.

I would love to see Willard bring in Soffer in very limited situations and have him park outside the three-point line. With the way the games are being officiated this year, with such frequent whistles, as in the Villanova game in Newark, you could put Soffer in on the offensive end and then sub him out immediately. If he hits a three, put him back in for another possession or two.

The way they shoot the 3 is very different. Singh seems to take much longer to get set and doesn't elevate. Offer has got a quicker trigger and release. Couldn't hurt to get him a few possessions to hide him in the corner and see if he can knock down a few.

You guys saw Soffer vs some of the worst competition you will see this year. And clearly only watched him shoot 2 3's. I wont comment on his defense or ball handling because they were both fictitious. That game is literally going to be the best he looks. Put him in Veers situations (big 3s and layups vs wichita st) and he wont be as confident anymore.

You can make the comparison to Sanogo, but coming out of college hes rated much lower (at one point i honestly think he was a zero star recruit), especially compared to singh. Obviously it looks like im knocking the kid, but this thread is kind of getting ridiculous.

I think Singh is going to be really good in a year.

right but i think people are talking about contributing right now. A few minutes here and there can't hurt to get him some type of rhythm and confidence. Never know when that unknown player can knock down a key 3 or 2 before the defense adjusts

Soffer has a ways to h o but seems like a good kid and really loved the bench reaction when he hit shots. I'm really hoping he develops down the road enough to eventually get minutes but won't happen next year and probably next either.

I believe Sing has potential to be very good by Junior season. I am rooting for Soffer to improve but Singh is better right now. There will be a game coming up soon where Singh gets hot from three and helps us win. Just need a couple to drop.

When asked in the post game press conference if Soffer could see more minutes, Willard outright said no! So what does that tell you. Frank

Hold on to your seats. I couldn't agree more.

And all these "great kid" references, that's because he smiled after he hit a shot?
