St Francis Brooklyn Says no more sports

Sad, you have to feel for those kids. Hope they all find good landing spots, their coaches as well.

With the way NIL is going, the powers all merging jnto mega conferences. There’s powers and afterthoughts. Makes you wonder how much longer Wagner, St Peter’s, Sacred Heart, Marist, Rider, Monmouth, etc can all hang on.

Why not just go to D-2 or D-3 at least. Hartford is in the process.

So, I actually had a friend in a high position at that School that said that very thing to me about two years ago. Thought they needed to get out of the Division 1 level. One of only a few schools that never made the NCAA Tournament in basketball although they came close one time. I believe schools like Monmouth are fine. I believe Sacred Heart and Marist built new facilities recently. Not positive on that.

Marist & Sacred Heart are doing fine. Marist's endowment is actually higher than Seton Hall's. Sacred Hearts isn't at that level but it's 100 years younger. Both schools have modern campuses with many new buildings.

Its the private schools in urban areas that are most vulnerable.

Funny thing is that there were rumors that FDU wasn’t far behind at the d1 level, but were going to continue to support at the d3 campus.

Wonder if this NCAA tourney changes anything

Probably buys them 5 more years or until the coach leaves before significant talks like that pick up again.

It’s not only the race to bring in quality players to have competitive sports programs , there’s also a race to attract students to enroll in your school and in a number of schools enrollment has fallen off and that’s putting pressure on funding athletic programs.

I just wonder if we’ll see pressure to reduce the number of varsity programs to qualify for Division 1 status. It’s not only schools cutting all its sports programs , it also the number of schools that reduce the number of programs it has or drops down to a lower division from 1 to 2 or even 3 .

Correct; it's only a temporary reprieve. Remember that La Salle made the Sweet Sixteen ten years ago. Within five years, they were selling university-owned artwork to meet payroll.

I don't think NIL has anything to do with it. Coaches, trainers, administrative staff, etc all adds up to a ridiculous cost that really doesn't bring much return on investment.

To the extent that "NIL" has to do with it is only that it extinguished whatever flicker of hope there was that a good coach could ever catch lightning in a bottle for them. But yeah, this has everything to do with a very large expense that yields nothing for the institution.
