St. John’s Strikes Again

Wow, I've been talking about SHU recruiting Europe better for awhile. Pitino actually flew to Italy to see that kid play. Pitino is willing to grind to find talent. If Seton Hall is gonna strike out on P4 guys maybe look internationally? If only we had a foreign graduate in an NBA front office.

If you're Sha, how much would you be willing to pay Wilcher right now?
I would massively overpay, even though he wasn’t all that great last season for a team where it was setup for him to thrive. He made enough of a jump where I would bet on more improvement and if it means we lose him next year, so be it.

We need kids who can play significant minutes in the Big East on a competent level and he can do that.

I’d recommend Simeon Wilcher to anybody. Great kid and wish we could have kept him on board. He’s still young and getting better. Became a numbers and position game. Best days still ahead of him.

Yeah based on the players we've been associated with, I'd make him a priority. Offer around $1M go a bit higher if needed. Supposedly Pitino offered him 750k to come off the bench.

He has BE starting experience on a Top 15 team. I think talent-wise, he's similar to Coleman. He's a good defender and should make a big jump as a junior.

I would rather overpay Coleman at 1.25 mil than overpay a St. John’s rotation player in Wilcher but what do I know…

Can Rick send us some of his sloppy seconds (or thirds)?
Literally, his bench would all start for us. And the guys he ran off would be a decent nucleus for Sha around Adam Clark. Even without RJ, these 5 with Clark may be a better nucleus than what we end up with.

Wilcher
Glover
Dunlap
Iwuchuckwu
Maker

Agree save for Maker who I've never seen play.

In reality, I actually don't even think he "ran off" those kids because he didn't like them or didn't think they were good players or potential players. I think they all transferred because of a minutes crunch with all the new faces and because they probably were going to get more NIL to play a bigger role elsewhere. Certainly that's everything that's been reported on Wilcher.

Oddly, I think Luis might be the only one they kind of "ran off", and I don't know if that was about him being a difficult kid to manage, that they thought they couldn't get through to him anymore, or simply didn't want to gamble on the "wait and see" approach as to whether he'll turn pro. A good friend of mine is highly, highly connected to Miami sports, where Lucas brought in Luis's former HS coach as one of his assistants on the new staff, and he had some interesting stories on the subject.

Just using the term run off, can also use "recruited over". A good coach doesn't make the player feel unwelcome, just tells him straight what to expect if he stays and player wisely reads the situation and chooses to pursue other options for better opportunity. Opportunity for bigger role which could lead to more money.

Agreed.

Wilcher going to a big time program for $$ and my guess is he’s starting there. He plays well he will be a significant ticket item as a senior IMO.

Glover and Dunlap going down a level but if they perform my guess is each will likewise be back up next year to a better league for $$.
