St Johns/Prov

Johnnies could have lost that providence game. Few days ago we could have won that providence game. A basket either way.
Johnnies have X times the pirates payroll right?

They’ve lost 3 games by a total of 5 points this year per the article I read earlier today.

Wild stuff.

No clue. Haven’t played top of league yet. Timing of when they played teams. IDK. Will come down to earth when they face Marquette and UConn no doubt.

All I know is I wouldn’t mind having like 20 Ws and 10 conference W’s on Feb 1 playing in front of huge crowds.

Kadary is so cool and relaxed; never shows emotion and does all the right things to win; hope he makes it at the next level!

The garden was rocking today! Nothing like it, I am going to go to the Marquette game Tuesday should be wonderful game

Finally learned how to nail that elbow jumper instead of going all the way to the rim like he did w us

"Wild stuff.
Only 1 quad one win
We had what 7 quad one wins last year?"

We had five last year (six including Indiana State).

On February 1, 2024 we had four -- UConn and Marquette at home and Providence and Butler on the road. We also had a Q3 home loss that they don't have (all three of their losses are Q1). The worst thing you can say about them is they've lost to three top 40 NET teams.

The BE back loaded their schedule as they often do with the better teams. They have UConn and Marquette twice plus a trip to Villanova and a home game with Creighton.

They aren't helped by the fact that the BE is markedly weaker than it was even last year. SJU hasn't played a Q1 game since January 7. Meanwhile they have five BE Q3 wins -- four at home and us.

They'll be fine.

Watching the game yesterday, I was wondering how St Johns could be ranked 15th but only currently slotted as an 8 seed. Now it makes more sense seeing who they've actually won against in the BE so far.

Here is the rankings from the Big East coaches preseason poll:

Coaches’ Preseason Poll
1. UConn (10) 100
2. Creighton 84
3. Xavier 82
4. Marquette (1) 74
5. St. John’s 70
6. Providence 54
7. Villanova 44
8. Butler 36
9. Georgetown 25
10. Seton Hall 24
11. DePaul 12
First place votes in parentheses

The bottom 2 right now are the same projected (us/Depaul). Butler is barely above that and so probably has underperformed a bit compared to expectations.

You have a "glut" of 5-6 teams right now with X, Prov, Nova and Gtown. We will see how that shakes out ultimately compared to the preseason projections, but seems Xavier has underperformed and Gtown has overperformed. Xavier though has already played Uconn twice, Marquette twice, St. John's twice and Creighton once. So they have an opportunity to really separate here from that pack with the remainder of their schedule.

I think Uconn or Marquette will finish 1/2 and Creighton/St. John's 3/4.
