Remember with BC they didn't win a Conference football game this year either .

I stick to what I said last time. St John's probably a better team by a hair, but Rutgers with a better shot to win a game.

An article/documentary should be developed about the downfall of BC Athletics since departing for the ACC. What a huge mistake...and they were one of the first to make the realignment jump.

Times are indeed tough at my daughter's alma mater, but let's not over react and say that ALL athletics are suffering. They had a great string of bowl appearances during and just after the Matt Ryan years and elevated the football profile of the conference. Men's and women's soccer is always top notch. While it has nothing to do with the ACC, there is no better college hockey program on the planet.

Basketball is certainly in dire straits. Maybe the Willard detractors should pay attention to what happened there. When Al Skinner got complacent they fell way behind in recruiting. They replaced him with a smart young coach who had a vision and a system (Steve Donohue). Progress ensued but it was at a much slower pace than the alums could tolerate. They threw him out for "proven winner" and the bottom has fallen out.

While true, BC has 2 bowl appearances in the past 3 years (both losses)... Over the past 5 years their football team is 23-39

BC = Barely Catholic.

Yes, hockey is great, and I'm sure other programs are good, but the "Major" sports have severely lacked over the past 5-7 years. That is not something that BC is accustomed to. And it's not like they were average, they have been downright bad.

Their Conference Record in FB the last 5 years is:
2015. 0-8
2014. 4-4
2013. 4-4
2012. 1-7
2011. 3-5
Overall Conference Record is 12-28 , a 30% winning percentage .

Just as with Taps76 my daughter is also a BC alum , is active in the BC club in downtown Boston and she reports the BC natives are restless.

I rarely get involved in the back and forth on this board as I don't think it is productive. I usually am just a passive reader because I learn a lot from those of you who follow the SHU program so enthusiastically. I only chimed in on the BC situation because I am a fan of them as well, and I thought I could add to the conversation.

The "BC = Barely Catholic" comment, however, cannot go unchallenged. That is just childish.

I never felt so Catholic in my life as I did after exposure to the Jesuits through my daughter's undergraduate experience in Boston.
Their energy and progressive, intellectual spirit was inspiring. It is no coincidence that Francis has breathed some much needed fresh air into the Vatican. He is the first Jesuit Pope.

Was my daughter being "barely Catholic" when she spent two post graduate years in the Jesuit Volunteer Corp helping disadvantaged families in Raleigh NC and foster children in Houston?

The decline of the BIG 3 programs is refreshing. Boston Coolidge is a joke in FB & Bball as is the old school located in Central Jersey. Unlike some here, I can't and won't root for McMullen or his alma mater.

question I have about BC is whether or not they are putting their money where their mouth as far as investing in Football and Basketball. Not sure what they can't get right up there.

Both the BC basketball and football head coaches compensation is near the bottom of their Conference peers and they have not invested as much money into upgrading their athletic facilities as many of their conference peers have but whether that's the reason or just making the wrong choices to run those programs is the principal cause would need someone more informed then me to answer.

Thank you. I grew up literally in the shadow of BC (for those in the know, Cleveland Circle). I am the confirmation sponsor of an extraordinary young woman attending BC. My mother and father are well connected to various graduate study programs at BC and have worked tirelessly for decades supporting BC graduate students.

BC, were it not a football school, would have been an automatic perfect fit with us and we with them. Too bad football got in the way.

A very fine school. A Catholic school if you need that validation.

Well-said. And kudos to your daughter for volunteering. Perhaps the world needs more "barely Catholic" people.

At least with St. John's there is a path to improvement and they were in the tournament last year. Boston college and Rutgers are dead programs.

With BC you have to remember that hockey is the big time winter sport with the men ranked number 3 in the country ( PC is 5 ) and the BC women are 1 in the country.

My comment was not childish, it was accurate, maybe even a little too benevolent. While the great Catholic philosopher and apologist Peter Kreeft teaches at BC, for the past 40 years it has been a bastion of hatred for the Catholic faith, hatred for Cathoic morality, especially in its theology department. Do you remember Mary Daly, the pagan who chaired the theology dept. not too many years ago? She is deceased now, but many other insincere and Church-hating "theologians" have taken up the baton. Pope Francis' skull cap would be spinning if he knew what goes on there. An administration which sponsors gay/transvestite balls and punishes the underground Catholic student paper for covering it, cannot be called Catholic.

I am linking the story of a center-left Canadian Catholic grad student, who had a rude awakening at BC. Her story doesn't begin to capture what a mess that school is when it comes to the apostolic faith.

On one hand you are going to praise works of charity, while on the other hand you are going to call for someone to be berated? That is hypocrisy. In truth, you guys just have an intense animosity for the Catholic faith, that's why there's such an overreaction to my post that BC stood for barely Catholic. That is the truth.
