Seton Hall's Academic Excellence Continues to Hit Record Highs​

South Orange, N.J. – For well over a decade now, Seton Hall student-athletes have consistently set the bar high for academic success. For the 13th time in the last 14 years, Seton Hall Athletics has produced a record-high end-of-year cumulative GPA. After Spring 2024 grades were calculated, the department sits with a 3.531 cumulative GPA, surpassing the previous high of 3.518, and all 14 varsity programs are above 3.20.

This also marks the 10th consecutive academic year that the Pirates finished the year with a cumulative GPA above 3.30 and seventh straight year above 3.40.

Additionally, 159 student-athletes made the Seton Hall Dean's List during the Spring 2024 semester, representing 60 percent of the student-athlete population. To achieve Dean's List designation, students must have a 3.4 GPA or higher during the semester.

"We are blessed to have such amazing student-athletes here at Seton Hall, student-athletes who are dedicated to bettering themselves in the classroom and in their sport," Seton Hall Director of Athletics Bryan Felt said. "Our run of sustained and elite academic success that is into its second decade is always a testament to their hard work and ability to manage their time and responsibilities so well. Congratulations to our student-athletes on another record year, and congratulations to our academic support staff, coaches and administrators for all that they do in ensuring we are successful in the classroom."

All 14 programs currently boast cumulative GPAs above 3.20 with women's tennis at the top of the department at 3.807. Men's soccer, which has qualified for the BIG EAST Championship in three of the last four seasons with NCAA Tournament bids in 2020 and 2022, has the highest GPA among the male sports at 3.577. In total, nine of Seton Hall's 14 teams have a cumulative GPA above 3.50.

Seton Hall's teams combined to post a 3.513 GPA in the 2023-24 academic year with women's golf leading all sports with a 3.850 GPA and men's cross country leading the male sports with a 3.661 GPA

In the Spring 2024 semester, the Pirates combined for a 3.526 semester GPA with women's golf leading all teams at 3.877 and men's soccer leading all the male teams at 3.620.

Men's basketball, the department's highest-profile team and winner of the 2024 National Invitation Tournament with nine consecutive finishes in the top-half of the BIG EAST and eight national postseason bids in that span, continues to boast a strong academic profile as it completed its ninth straight academic year with a cumulative GPA over 3.0, currently standing at 3.208.

Women's basketball, which earned a national postseason berth for the eighth time in the last 10 postseasons played, also continues to show its academic strength. The program has a 3.202 cumulative GPA and was solid in Spring 2024 with a 3.326.

Men's golf, which captured the 2024 BIG EAST Championship for its second conference crown in the last three seasons, boasts a 3.244 cumulative GPA.

Seton Hall Athletics continues to be a leader and developer of the best and brightest in the nation. Annually, over 85 percent of the department's student-athletes achieve at least a 3.0 GPA in the classroom and receive numerous honors and accolades in support of their achievements. Seton Hall supports its student-athletes with outstanding mentoring and tutoring, led by the Academic Support Services staff, and offers its student-athletes a state-of-the-art learning environment in the Charles W. Doehler Academic Center for Excellence, which consists of a main study area, group meeting spaces and private tutoring rooms.

Those are amazing stats, something to be extremely proud about as an alum. Thanks for reminding us of a set of different numbers that makes these athletes more prepared for the future.
