That was one of the best defensive performances I can remember of a Pirate Team since we shut Duke down in the second half of our final four game in 1989

Incredible how the combo of Angel, Desi, Ish and the guards shut down the twin towers. Superlative defense !!!!!
Ish's defense was amazing. Ellenson is no joke. He completely shut him down. Angel's defense was phenomenal in the 2nd half! Way to go!!
Ish was everywhere and played great. I'm gonna start calling him the secret weapon.
But Angel surprised me and played tough down low and had some blocks. That was easily the best game defensively I've seen Angel play in his time here at the Hall. If we can get good D from our center and PF and clean the glass look out!

I almost can't believe what i just saw. After the game i had to get up and dance. Go Pirate Defense.
We out rebounded them by 17! Ish with 8 rebounds was 2 short of having 3 players with double doubles. Carrington and Delgado both had one.
Best defensive game we've played since PJ.

This was the best defensive performance I have seen since the latter years of PJ! Hope this defense keeps getting better.
They shot poorly because we defended them brilliantly, especially in the second half. Anything they had going we shut down.
Totally. and i said that (maybe in another thread). but on top of that they couldnt hit the 3 and even were bad from the FT line.
Really impressed with the d down low. and rebounding after willard chewed them about boxing out. love this tough metro identity we are creating.
Not sure if anyone noticed but our guards did a better job in the second half slowing their penetration too. This year we have guards playing better D and it will make a difference.

And that is why their playing so well! When was the last time the SHU starting 5 were solely NY/NJ high school grads?
I don't want to get ahead of myself, especially after last season, but not only did I like the D, but the versatility if the team. Desi, who was awesome, when we had to go without him the second half, Gordon stepped up and gave us a different dimension.
Let's see it continue, but, we played a very tough front line tonight and Ish and team were more than up for the challenge. Ish? Damn, great off season and love the work he put in
You beat me to the punch...when Desi left, every body had a sigh..but it turned out to be a good sigh...we now have players who come off the bench and can actually contribute.
