Watching the KU Duke game. Was astonished at how small #8 David Coit was. So i looked him up and he's from NJ. i scrolled down on the profile to see this:

Who or what inspired you to start playing basketball growing up?
  • Myles Powell was probably my biggest influence growing up, basketball wise. Watching him have a great career at Seton Hall and he lived 15 minutes away from me. His impact on me was huge because he made me feel like I could play this game at a high level regardless of my size.

It’s somehow easy to forget, with our current shaky situation and with Powell’s actions towards the school since graduating, just how great Myles Powell really was. In hindsight, it’s not surprising he would inspire those in the area. One thing’s for sure: we couldn’t afford anything close to what Cheese would go for these days as a junior or senior. Likewise, he probably wouldn’t be putting up historical numbers at whatever university could afford him.

Powell has got a sketchy past between his family issues and then the issues with the school. The fact he was throwing up gang signs all the time was a bit off putting but as a player one of my favorites to watch.

I think deep down he is a good kid though just a product of his environment. Being in China and with age hopefully he has matured.

I would love for Seton Hall to embrace him again as he made some of the greatest moments in recent SHU history.
