Taurean Thompson

They are all good kids who came here to get an education and play basketball.

I'm not saying kick anyone off the team.

But it's a fact that the only way TT comes here is if someone leaves.

So there was only 1 way for this thread to go... Just sayin.

not sure how we dont have a schollie if Gordon & Anderson are done after this season. Only given schollie for next season I'm aware of is for Powell. Plus. I'd be shocked if one of these three doesn't leave unless we have a great ending to the season (don't want anyone to leave, I'm just being realistic): Soffer, Carter, Anthony. And if this season doesn't go the way we all want it to, who knows who might leave.
Our bench contributions is a problem. Outside of Gordon who is essentially a sixth starter, we only have Nzei and Sing, who have given us minimal offensive production. Anthony has given us no production except on the defensive end.

I would like to see Anderson get a few more minutes to see what he can contribute. I'm assuming it's going to take time for Soffer and Carter to come along enough in their development to get any minutes. Look at Ish last year compared to this year. It took him time to catch onto the system. Frank

If Anderson is eligible to play basketball next year then we absolutely should give him a basketball scholarship. Can't afford to look sleazy to the only law school basketball player in the country.

My problem is giving him a BASKETBALL scholarship in the first place. If we did better than getting transfers such as Ajou and Anderson, our basketball team would be doing better on the basketball court.

You can dwell on the past or you can react to the current situation. What's done is done. We all want the players to move on after a mistake and make the next play. We should do the same. I'm not saying Anderson was a mistake, but we have to deal with the task at hand.

It's not like he is going into his junior or senior year and you are pulling the ship. He would be a two year post graduate player which makes the world to difference to me.

Remember Anderson completed a waiver probably before law school classes ever began. His academic advisor will probably advise him about the class load for next year. He may decide that due to the rigor of the classes that he solely wants to concentrate on his degree. Either way I feel that he will be on scholarship.

I still feel that if Taurean wants to come here, keeping my fingers crossed, that we will have a scholarship available. Just a hunch.....no inside information.

This thread is much ado about nothing. So far I do not believe Coach Willard has forced anyone to leave so that is a good for our program and reputation and it will not change. Every year someone transfers. If a good player wants to come, we will take him and offer him a scholly whether we have an open scholly or not. If there is a loophole with a graduate transfer and we can take advantage of it we will do it if no one transfers.

Now if we were trying to offer 2 or 3 scholly's for next year I'd be concerned. But 1 is easy. The coaches know they have one spot to play with. It always works out!

We will have one player transfer and will have an open scholarship that is what I meant. My comments had nothing to do with not making the tournament???

We play to win. Thats the goal of the season. Or are you content just filling our scholarships and calling it a win?

All of the transfers we take a flyer on, the proverbial diamond in the rough recruits, nothing has worked. Sure we have 12 guys on the bench, but who cares? The chips are gonna fall, but we want to do the best we can to have the right chips.

LOL. What the heck are you talking about?

This thread has NOTHING to do with the NCAA Tournament/winning.

This thread is about TT and roster spots/situations.

Roster spots always "WORK OUT".

No inside info here but in wouldn't be surprised to see Eron Gordon and Thompson taking roster spots for the 2016 class.

By the way I see his schools are NC State, RU, SJU, Syracuse, Temple, and Xavier thus far. Most on the list recruit honestly which means SHU has a good shot at that kid. But one or two along with others who might sneak in after losing other recruits might play the game differently! But as it is SHU can get this kid based on his listed home town and SHU comp in the recruiting process.

Rutgers has been cut from the list. SJU is not recruiting him. I assume you meant SHU and not SJU.

Syracuse, the probable favorite and SHU & Providence are the leaders at this point.

With some transfers you know what you're getting because you are able to judge what they've done at their other school and they bring a track record with them as with DG. Other transfers come with only one year of college experience , limited playing time and you're taking a risk in that situation but some work out like Gibbs did and others don't like Cher Ajou.

Transfers are an increasing part of the college recruiting landscape and if you're going to take a transfer who has more then one year of eligibility you damn well better be right that he fills a need for you.

A thread that turns into throwing a current player(s) under the bus and for what? Do you really think this kid is coming to SH? I hope he does, but I like to dream (without using the pipe/bong)

It sounds like we're hanging in there nicely, but I agree that no good will come of this. Things do have a way of working out, and the people involved often will act in their own self interest in ways that will open up spots for new kids. It's always been that way, and not specific to this team or this season. But to call out individuals as prime candidates for "reassignment" isn't a good look.

You are easily the biggest @#$% on the board and that is saying something. I have no idea what you are talking about and don't wish to talk to you again.

Here is the bottomline, if the AD of Seton Hall finds out we lost a kid like Taurean Thompson because we didn't have a scholarship available for him because we had to get Braedan Anderson. Willard has to be fired. We have not been in it for a big man this talented coming out of high school since Dalmebert and Eddie Griffin. Seriously when is the last Seton Hall big man that was shot blocking above the rim terror.

LOL @ letting this kid go to Syracuse or Providence.

Syracuse a school that seems to be getting every Jersey kid in sight, Lets let them get another one.

Tyler Roberson Malachi Richardson Tyus Battle and now Taurean Thompson and they would of had Moustapha Diagne had something not gone wrong with his academics.

LOL, thats a national championship contending roster all these kids are half an hour away from Seton Hall. And we are not getting a sniff from any of them. Except for Kyle Anderson and Taurean Thompson.

Do you not understand how embarassing this is? I won't even get into the fact the Kyrie's the Karl Towns and the Isaiah Briscoe's don't want no part of this program either.

I mean this is a joke.

If you put aside your own personal preferences and look at the situation without bringing any biases to the table you would have to say that both Cuse and PC has had far greater success and ability to be a tourney team then SH has had and if Thompson were to chose them over SH no one should be surprised . Both PC and Cuse have better resumes then we do although our staff has done a really good job in keeping us in the hunt but I would say the odds are against us. Besides when was the last time we signed a player from St.A's , it was Donald Copeland , a player coming out of HS who was not viewed as a major college player but thru sheer hard work he become a very good player for us.

Am I way off base but could BA become a graduate assistant? Smart kid and we would then have the extra scholarship.

I'm fairly certain there is some sort of loophole. That is why folks are making a mountain out of a molehill here. Let's get the kid first and then worry about everything else.

This is the biggest chance of ripping someones scholarship away, hence the entire conversation or as you would call it "molehill"

but hey im the biggest @#$% on the board so dont worry too much.

Our AD has become immune to how many NJ players we've had as priority targets that went elsewhere that it's become so routine that losing another one is just a ripple in the water.

Players transfer out of our program every year. If you're worried we won't have a ship available I'd say you're worrying needlessly.

One of the time honored traditions of piratecrew is to use transfer speculation as a means to identify which players you think suck without having to come right out and say it.

I started a thread on the Trove about this same subject. We need a major big man. Thompson could fill that role. There are a small number of players who could fill that role. We promised BA a ship and we should stick to our promises. I think he is a great kid. He has also said that doing both is really hard. He has to make a decision and I think there will end up being a Scolie available regardless, there always is. It just happens. But if I wasn't seeing playing time and my butt was getting kicked by my course load and there was a possibility of getting an academic Scolie I would definitely think about it. That is all. No pushing, no saying it should happen, just looking at reality. I wish there was a way if he qualified for an academic Scolie he could walk on, but that just opens up a bigger can of worms that no one wants to touch.
