Thank god its almost over

Also we had some seasons lately where we collapsed to blow an NCAAT bid: 13-8, 10-5 and lost final 4 in 2021 under Willard and then 15-9, 8-5 and went 2-5 in 2023 under Holloway. Those were bad bc we were so close.

But this year is different. Above all else I hate seeing the program be a punchline and be this atrocious and inept. I’d rather be relevant and miss it than this.

With all of those other seasons it always felt like we were the right coach or the right recruiting class away from turning the program around. There was at least the possibility of hope no matter how bleak things seemed.

With the portal and NIL this past season feels like it could be the end of SHU having a competitive program. Going to the games the last few months felt like walking into a sports funeral.

CT Pirate: I posted this earlier. Do you think this year was more of a gut punch than the last Amaker year when we got as high as (was it....) #5 before every possible wheel on the bus came off? That was tougher for me. Absolutely no expectations for this year's team, and they lived up them.
Great question. The high expectations notion needs to be factored in. At least we had some reason for optimism and joy with the last Amaker season. (albeit fleeting) This year, we were bad from the jump. What makes this year tougher in my mind is there is no reason to believe things are going to improve. Getting called out by opposing coaches. Singled out by broadcasters. Empty seats. No student involvement. MAAC level talent. Blowouts. The fiasco in the upper reaches of Setonia leadership. No statement from administration. Stink doesn't get better with age. Critical point for the Hall.

Yeah, but the basketball savant Jay Bilas got his wish and ruined the game in the process.
I don't think he got what he wanted at all. I think he's always been in the camp either the players are employees of the school or they can do a commercial for a place as small as Bunny's or as big as McDonald's. I don't think anyone has ever been for a bunch of alums just throwing hundreds of thousands at players.

He's the worst. I heard him the other day talking about changing to four quarters instead of two halves. "Every other league uses quarters, why does men' s CBB use two halves?!" For the life of me, I do not understand why a guy who hates the college basketball so much continues to work in college basketball.

I’m pretty sure you know why.

Eventually he'll write a best selling book detailing how the game was ruined, & blame everyone but himself. That's how its done these days.
He can redeem himself if he successfully crusades against replay reviews - a crisis that has become far more horrendous than NIL and unbridled free agency.
