Thank you Sterling for always working to improve your game. Your improvement over the last three years was great to watch. Good luck in the future. You will always be a pirate to me and many others

I'll never forget your hitting the game-winning shot to beat Villanova in
last years Big East Tournament and your 40 point game in St Thomas
Thank You

Thanks For telling everyone you were coming back, only to wait until the last minute to announce you were leaving. Thanks For not being a team player. Thanks For making Seton Hall look good by smacking Arch in the face. You were never better than the team, even though you thought you were. Seton Hall will be better- addition by subtraction.

Seems like somebody just sucked down a mouthful of sour grapes.

Gibbs didn't have to tell Seton Hall he's leaving, because what he wants to do with his post-graduate life is none of their business. Kids transfer or declare for the draft all the time. Gibbs did nothing wrong. He came to Seton Hall, earned his degree, and now is pursuing his graduate degree elsewhere (as the rules permit him to do). Schools like Seton Hall use kids like Gibbs to make money all the time. In this case, the tables are turned and the student-athlete is the one who comes out ahead. That is a good thing.

Thank you Gibbs for actually giving willard another couple of months to try and land a big man. Only to land Myles Carter and Bradaen anderson. Let's get real pirates fans! almost no chance we made the tournament with Sterling and no chance we make it without him. I heard a source close to sterling about a year ago say he's worried they won't bring a big man in. Guess what a year + since getting IW and Willard still couldn't get a decent big guy in. If you have a problem with sterling leaving, ok you bleed pirate blue, but you're just not realistic. Kid gave willard plenty of chance to bring a winning squad in and he gets myles carter and anderson to solve our big man problems. Our whole roster is a complete mess we have a whole squad of big men that wouldn't start on NJIT. Is lyons goal to make the tournament? Do we want to be competitive in the big east? Sterling. God bless him for getting out.

What's the matter with you? I wish he hadn't said he was staying but do you think your boy (who's as much to blame as anyone) really would have brought in a quality PG even if he was given ample notice? At the end of the day it doesn't matter. The whole situation is just unfortunate and who knows what went on the past couple years but Gibbs gave us the greatest SHU moments we've seen in years during his short time here.

Wow that is harsh.......sometimes it is better to say nothing at all.

Sterling, thank you for the exciting moments you gave us. There were some ups and downs, for sure, but the "ups" far outnumbered the "downs". I enjoyed watching you for these 2 seasons....wish it could have been 3, but fully understand you have to do what is best for you.

Wish you nothing but the best next year, and beyond.

I don't blame Gibbs for leaving but I'm not going to thank him either. Seems a little vindictive in how this was all handled.......

I hope he doesn't get hurt, finds what he is looking for, and couldn't care less after that.

Gibbs was better than the team. He made Seton Hall. We didnt deserve him. He didnt deserve such a goddamn lousy coach. Thank you for taking a chance on us, but like every player for the past 6 or so years, you made the wrong choice. There is honestly no way you can justify going to Seton Hall as a good idea with Willie Vanilli at the helm (moving his lips but nothing coming out). I wish you success at your next school and will be rooting for you during the tournament since I wont be rooting for my own team. You were the man!!

Shuathlete Nice choice of words, Gd is the worst word you could use, as a Catholic and Seton Hall Alum. Great testament to your character!

Gibbs was a terrific player. Some of the most memorable clutch shots in recent history.

I guess he had enough of the Seton Hall Family...agree with SPK..can't blame him, but no thanks here either.

Flnj86, what about the content of what he said?

Also, you seem to want to trash Gibbs for committing the "sin" of not allowing himself to be taken advantage of by Seton Hall. Big-time athletic programs make a pretty penny off these kids. Gibbs came to Seton Hall, played ball, and got his diploma. He owes Seton Hall nothing, nor did have to tell them in advance about his post-graduate goals. What is your response to that?

It seems as if you care more about your boy Willard than the kids who are helping him make a very healthy living.

No thanks for Gibbs? You guys sound like ingrates. Gibbs did everything he could do to fulfill his agreement with Seton Hall: he transferred in, played hard and well, and earned his degree. He owes the school nothing.

A place like Seton Hall is supposed to exist so young people can pursue their life's dreams. Winning basketball games is much further down the list, though it's pretty obvious that's the only thing some of you care about. I applaud Gibbs for using Seton Hall rather than letting the school use him. That's the way it's supposed to be, and it doesn't happen nearly enough in big-time college athletics.

I thank Gibbs for virtually ensuring that there is no way Willard can stumble into any record that the administration could bend over backwards to use as an excuse to keep him beyond the 2015-16 season. I do reserve the right to be proven wrong by our administration's penchant for epic failure though.

You are unbelievable! Two days ago you would have said Gibbs is the best thing since sliced bread. Now that he left you knock him. Weren't you one of the posters who praised our new recruit who did the same thing to his old school? If a player leaves you call him a bum. If a bum verbals to SHU you praise him like he is the next coming of Larry Bird.

You call truthful posters out and say they are making the board unreadable. You make this board much worse than the people who base their displeasure on facts. You base your comments on a love affair for the bum coach.

Well said .

Zach Braziller did a story in today's NY Post with a quote from Sterling's Dad. Here's what he said" it was something he felt he had to do for his state of mind." The story also said there was" reported locker-room friction between Gibbs and Whitehead"

I am a Seton Hall University Grad and 30 yr Seton Hall Men's Basketball fan, for me the team comes first, then any players that are on the team, then the coaches. I think it is great that the women's golf team is going to back to back NCAA's, women's basketball is successful and went to the NCAA's and the women's volleyball team made the NCAA's. For me, I have followed the Men's basketball Team in 89 , early 90's, 2000 etc and more than anything I want to see our team have a successful season and make the NCAA Tournament. This is our flagship program and it's success is vital not just from a sports view but also for the school as a whole. A successful basketball program mean's increased name recognition and revenue for the school. There are many people out in public, other states, and non SHU grads who still remember the success we had on the court. I am proud to say, that I graduated from Seton Hall University and I will always be 100% behind the Men's Basketball team every year. I am a Met's fan since the 70's but I admit that I only start following the team when they are winning and do not pay attention when they are losing. I follow Seton Hall every year even when we are losing, but I find it very frustrating when we do not win. This past season with the great start, young team and then the way it ended was the most difficult for me. We have made many improvements on campus, so we should start winning and making the NCAA Tournament.

Blah, blah, blah, Willard is great, blah, blah, blah, Willard should be fired, blah, blah, blah, Willard is great, blah, blah, blah, Team will finish in the Top 3 in the Big East, blah, blah, blah, Gibbs is great, blah, blah, blah, We're better off without Gibbs, blah, blah, blah, My head is so far up Willard's ass I can taste what he had for lunch, blah, blah, blah, I sat right by Jerry Lucas at the Final Four, blah, blah, blah.

What a valuable waste of Internet time.

SPK I think we should meet at a future Seton Hall Basketball game. We can have a face to face discussion. You know man to man talk, not on an internet board.

Sure, sounds good to me, many here know me personally.

I was going to say maybe the team can succeed by getting along like the 77-8 Yankees. But now I say maybe the team will be better if they get along like we do...lol.

SPK will be the guy in the Rutgers hat. (Or is that me?)

Flnj86 - for me this is the best post you have had in quite some time. It goes to show that many of us are in the same exact boat as you (for myself that also includes being a die hard Mets fan)... We all want what is best for the program and to see it back in the upper half of the league on a consistent basis. It seems the administration had the opportunity to turn the page this off season with a coaching change but buried their head in the sand and "saved some $" short term but I fear the program will be a bigger mess a year from now when hopefully someone else takes the reigns.

That being said, I know I have turned completely on Willard in the last 1.5 years and I am a consistent negative poster at the moment (to the annoyance of some I am sure). You are the exact opposite as everything Willard or the program does is the greatest thing since sliced bread. His Big East record is 30-60, thats really all that matters. I support the team and always will, but when the writing is so clearly on the wall that the wrong guy is leading the program - it's time to be objective and call a spade a spade. Just as the negativity gets old, so does all the polyanna - blue colored glasses talk.

Obviously KW is going nowhere for another year, and I will personally try to dial back my negativity. I had been doing a good job of staying off the board more or less for a couple weeks, but the Gibbs leaving news is a stark reminder of the state of the program. Some can choose to look at the "addition by subtraction" route... Personally, I don't buy it. Warts and all, Gibbs was the best and most clutch player on the team, in addition to best shooter and ball handler. That just can't be replaced at this stage of the game, especially by a head coach who has never been able to recruit upper tier talent without an assistant coach spot available in 6 years.

For next year I will still be praying for a miracle in the hopes the program can somehow get to the NCAAs (which got a lot harder without Gibbs imo) and that Willard chooses to leave... If the season implodes once again and the Admin does not make a change then I am done. I also pray that if God forbid a key guy gets injured or there is something else that happens with the program that The Admin finally stops listening to KW's EXCUSES and moves on...
