Probably not the most physically talented player on the squad. Certainly not the most athletic. And although a quality jump shooter there are better alternatives for Shaheen Holloway.
But with all that said I have no issue to date in calling Dyan Addae-Wusu Seton Hall's silent assassin. In short it's glue guy.
Now that may sound odd considering common knowledge is that Wusu is clearly one of the team's best 4 players. But I see him more as a swiss army knife than a star. A player despite being 6-4 and built like a tank as being able to play and play well at 4 different positions for the Pirates. It would have been 5 but you are not going to play in the middle at his height.
Wusu is undoubtedly the team's best defender. Unquestionably its most physical player and a very nice alternative from the arc. But watching him now in 2 situations I noticed that he doesn't stand out. Instead he does things that don't show up in the box score, but directly impacts the game and often can be the difference between an W and an L.
Case in point last Saturday. The player only took 5 shots in over 30 minutes yet led by far the team's +/- stat with a +19. Now at times the +/- stat can be deceiving but I would stress with a player like Dylan that might be telling as he competes with a very high IQ and focuses on what his coach wants him to do.
Now I say this with a bit of caution. I have only seen him in Pirate Blue twice. But since the theme this week is to profile some of our players based on what we have to evaluate this early I note that's what I have seen and expect to see moving forward.
Many here wanted Posh and I understand because of the need thought by some that the Pirates had to have a backup to Richmond at the point. But all summer long I was told that Holloway unquestionably if given the choice of taking Posh or Wusu that it was no contest, he wanted Dyan. This early I see why.
Thoughts?
