PREVIEW
Seton Hall returns to action this week for another pair of BIG EAST Conference matches. The Hall will host rival Georgetown on Wednesday, Oct. 16 at Walsh Gymnasium at 5:00 p.m. Seton Hall will then head to Indianapolis, Ind. for a match at Butler on Friday, Oct. 18. That one begins at 7:00 p.m.

PROMOTIONS
Wednesday's game is our annual Dig Pink Match. All attendees are encouraged to wear pink to support breast cancer awareness. It's also our "Most Valuable Professor" Night.

HALL NOTES

• On Oct. 5 at UConn, Perri Lucas became only the 12th player in Seton Hall history to reach the milestone of 1,000 kills for her career.
  Seton Hall currently ranks third in the BIG EAST with 15.68 digs per set, while sophomore Rylee Nelson ranks second among all individuals with 4.62 per set.
  The Pirates are currently second in the conference with 1.65 service aces per set.
• The Pirates have two players that rank in the BIG EAST top-10 in service aces per set Asli Subasili is second with 0.45 aces per set, while Jenna Walsh is 10th at 0.33 per set.
• The Hall closed out the non-conference portion of its schedule with a 6-5 record.
• Reagan Merk has collected a team-high seven double-doubles this season.
• Seton Hall played its first five-set match of the season on Friday, a road, come-from-behind victory at Providence.
• Maddy Klungel ranks seventh in the BIG EAST with 7.37 assists per set. She has now topped 30 assists in seven straight matches.

SCOUTING GEORGETOWN
Seton Hall and Georgetown will resume their long rivalry on Wednesday when the Hoyas visit Walsh Gymnasium. Georgetown owns a slim, 24-23, all-time series lead, but the Pirates have dominated the series recently having won 14 of the last 17 meetings. Last season, the teams only played once, a 3-2 victory for the Pirates in Washington, D.C.

The Hoyas are coming off a 14-16 season in 2023, which included a 5-13 mark in BIG EAST play. They failed to qualify for the BIG EAST Tournament. Despite the lackluster season, three Hoyas were honored with postseason awards. Peyton Wilhite was named to the All-BIG EAST Team, while both Emily Wen and Kamryn Lee-Caracci earned placement on the All-Freshman Team.

This season, Georgetown was picked to finish 10th in the 11-team BIG EAST according to the preseason coaches' poll. Seton Hall was selected seventh. Although Wilhite graduated, the Hoyas return Mary Grace Goyena, who led the team with 361 kills last year, and Karis Park, who had 4.06 digs per set in 2023. Both Wen and Lee-Caracci also return for their sophomore campaigns.

Georgetown enters Wednesday's contest with an 8-10 overall record and a 1-5 mark in BIG EAST Conference play. The Hoyas' lone BIG EAST victory came on Oct. 5 when they defeated Providence in four sets on the road. Last weekend, Georgetown was edged in five sets by DePaul and fell in four sets to Xavier, both at home. Goyena currently leads the team with 2.62 kills per set.

SCOUTING BUTLER
Seton Hall and Butler will lock horns for the 21st time in history on Friday. The Bulldogs own a 13-7 all-time series lead in the prior 20 meetings. Most recently, the teams split the home-and-home series last season with The Hall losing in four sets at Hinkle Fieldhouse, but winning in five sets in Walsh Gym.

Butler is coming off a 13-16 record in 2023, which included a 7-11 mark in conference play. Although the Bulldogs finished strong with wins in three of their final four matches, they did not qualify for the 2023 BIG EAST Tournament. Jaymeson Kinley was named BIG EAST Libero of the Year and First Team All-BIG EAST, while Elise Ward was named to the All-Freshman Team.

This season, the Bulldogs were picked to finish fifth in the 11-team BIG EAST according to the preseason coaches' poll. Seton Hall was selected seventh. Butler returns 12 of 13 players from last year's roster. Mariah Grunze, Abby Maesch and Elise Ward highlighted the offense in 2023, combining for 899 of Butler's 1459 kills (61%).

The Bulldogs have under-performed so far in 2024 and enter the weekend with a 3-15 overall record and a 1-5 mark in BIG EAST play. Their lone conference victory came in their last match, a four-set victory over Providence on Sunday. Although Butler's competition has been fierce, their win over Providence was the first time they won a set in BIG EAST play having been swept by DePaul, Xavier, Creighton, Marquette and Connecticut prior to Sunday.

UP NEXT
Next week, The Hall will host a pair of BIG EAST Conference heavyweights in Walsh Gymnasium. On Friday, Oct. 25, Seton Hall will welcome Marquette for a 5:00 p.m. match. On Saturday, Oct. 26, No. 8 Creighton will visit Walsh at 6:00 p.m.

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Graduate student Perri Lucas (Chicago, Ill.) had 13 kills and no attack errors, while senior Maddie Klungel (Napa, Calif.) tallied a double-double as the Seton Hall women's volleyball team swept Georgetown, 3-0 (25-12, 25-20, 25-19), in Walsh Gym on Wednesday.

Seton Hall turned in its most-complete performance of the season, which included a season-high .350 attack percentage against the Hoyas. Its victory is its second of the season in BIG EAST Conference play.

Lucas had one of her best offensive efforts of her career, collecting a match-high 13 kills with no attack errors. Heer .591 attack percentage was also a match-best among players with at least five attacks.

Klungel tallied her sixth double-double of the season with a match-highs of 31 assists and 10 digs.

SET 1:
Seton Hall led the opening set wire-to-wire an held Georgetown to a .000 attack percentage in a 25-12 rout. The Pirates scored 12 of the first 14 points of the match, and a service aces by Mason Woo (Burbank, Calif.) gave them a 12-2 lead. The Hall's lead extended to 13 on a kill by Maddy Loiselle (Tampa, Fla.), 18-5, and forced a Hoyas timeout. A kill by Senna Roberts-Navarro (Honolulu, Hawaii) provided the Pirates with their 25th point.

SET 2:
The second set was the closest, featuring nine ties and four lead changes, but ultimately, the result was the same. Trailing 12-10, the Pirates went on a 7-0 run and Georgetown never found the equalizer. The Hoyas cut their deficit to 22-20, but The Hall bounced back with the final three points of the set. A kill by Lucas put Seton Hall in set point, and another by Loiselle gave it a 25-20 victory.

SET 3:
Seton Hall had a match-high .464 attack percentage with 15 kills and only two attack errors in the third set. With the score tied at 13, the Pirates scored five points in a row, and a kill by Roberts-Navarro gave them an 18-13 advantage. The Hoyas pulled to within four points, 22-18, but The Hall closed out the match with three of the final four points. A kill by Laila Wallace (Munster, Ind.) gave Seton Hall a 25-19 set three victory.




INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

• Lucas had a match-high 13 kills, no attack errors and a .591 attack percentage.
• Klungel had match-highs of 31 assists and 10 digs along with two blocks and two kills.
• Loiselle had eight kills, only two attack errors and three digs.
• Roberts-Navarro tallied six kills, eight digs and three blocks.
• Junior Asli Subasili (Tekirdag, Turkiye) collected four kills and a season-high seven blocks.
• Seton Hall recorded a .350 attack percentage for the match, while Georgetown attacked at .116.
• The Pirates had 40 kills, while Georgetown had 28.
• The Hall recorded 24 digs, while the Hoyas had 34.
• Seton Hall collected 10.0 blocks and Georgetown had 5.0.

• The Hall improves to 8-10 overall on the season and 2-5 in the BIG EAST, while Georgetown falls to 8-11 overall and 1-6 in conference play.
• Seton Hall is now 24-24 all-time against the Hoyas.
• Klungel topped 30 assists in a single-match today for the eighth match in a row and the 12th time in her career.
• The Hall improves to 2-3 this season in three-set matches this season.
• Klungel's double-double is her sixth of the season and the 12th of her career.
