If you're tired of listening to Francesa and Mike and Mike,Michael Kay, etc and watching that ESPN garbage, set your DVR to record all the episodes of the Herd.

Collin Cowherd is a sportscaster who thinks completely out of the box and is dynamite. Don't know if you guys are into him or not, but you should be. Frank

heard on Boomer and Carton this morning something about Francesa retiring or a possibility. Carton said it was because of their show. Never know when to believe him but he said it was in I think the News or the Post. Any info on this at all? Thanks

The Colin Coherd Show is one of the most intelligent sports talk shows out there. He is the antithesis of Mike Francesa, who at this point is a self important blowhard.

What would their show have to do with it?

Count me in as a Francesa fan (I know I'm in the minority here), and count me OUT as a Colin Cowherd fan. I do agree Kay and Mike and Mike are brutal to listen to.

Don't count me among those on the anti-Francersa bandwagon. He has his flaws, but the show is interesting. However Cowherd is on a whole different level Frank

I like Michael Kay... He and Don have a good rapport... During the 5pm drive they usually entertain me.

Mike Golic is beyond annoying, Francessa is literal torture... Colin can be interesting, but he gets annoying as well with his "trust me, I know everything and you don't know what you are talking about until you see it my way"... Steven A Smith was the worst though. Very arrogant and an extremely annoying tone and pragmatics.

Mike and the Mad Dog invented the genre. I give them all the credit. I happened to just hear Mike discuss Raisman's article, and he said he not spoken for about 20 years to Raisman and that he has no agent who could be the leak. Said some was true and some was not. Did not deny that he is unhappy and was not certain if he would stay or what he would do if he left. Carton to Mike is like a fart to a symphony as far as sports radio. I have been listening to Michael Kay's show a lot on the way home. I like it. When Mike F is on some of his stuff (like the Yanks, golf, horseracing) that I don't care about, I started tuning in to Kay more.

I've often wondered how Cowherd stayed on the air, assuming everyone found him to be as empty of original thought as I. To each their own I guess.

By the way, no show is worse than Boomer and Carton.

Sorry, that's a lie. Any show involving Stephen A Smith and/or Skip Bayless would b the worst ever.

If you're a Game of Thrones fan and listen to Francesa I think you'll find this hilarious....

He's got a civil war, revolutionary war, wwII and true detective skit out there too that are hilarious. I think they've been posted here before but just search YouTube for "mike zaun".

I find him to be interesting but his ego can be off-putting.

Colin Cowherd is part of the garbage that is ESPN these days, as is most sports talk radio. I only watch sports channels for live games these days as all the shows and egos have completely turned me off as I've grown older.

At THIS point? He's been a blowhard for years. Especially since Mad Dog left.

I agree. The problem with sports talk radio is that it leads to too much sports and a less-rounded life. Where I live we have no professional or major college sports teams (rookie league baseball...ugh), but THREE sports talk stations. Listening to those guys yap would make me feel like I'm wasting precious moments of my life. I don't care for pre and post-game shows either. Just give me the games.

You are on the money. It has been many years since I 've listened to sports talk radio or watched ESPN. The only station and channel I tune in is MLB radio and TV. I just want the facts. I don't want opinions

I grew up with Francesa and will always be a listener of his. You can't take everything he says seriously, but the show is almost always entertaining. He also sent me to a Super Bowl, so I can't really knock the guy.

Kay and Lagreca are unbearable. Cowherd has his moments, but I'm not a fan. He went on a rant last week about how baseball requires the least amount of strategy and mental aptitude of all the major sports. His reasoning was that most baseball players don't even go to college and that there are no plays run in baseball, so the coaches don't actually do much. I only caught part of it, but what I did catch was nonsensical.

Francesa is an unbearable listen.

Kay is even worse.

Cowherd is amusing and I take him with a grain of salt.

Mike & Mike are softball entertainment.

ESPN First Take is very informative. It's just Smith and Bayless, both knowledgeable and well spoken are so full of themselves it's hard to like them.

Don't even get me started on Loud Mouths. Carlin actually thinks he's amusing. And Shein couldn't be more obnoxious.

That's the problem Obnoxious and Loud sells.

I'd like to take Boomer, Carton, Francesa, Kay, Smith and put them on a boat to Alaska where they can stay.
Cowheard is fantastic in my opinion and I used to like Sedano and Stink during football season but Stink is gone so now it's not the same.

You have to give props to Mike and the Mad Dog for the origination of Sports Talk. I liked Mike and the Mad Dog. But Francesa alone is tough to listen to. Kaye is not bad on Yankee topics but nothing else. LaGrecca is good on hockey but nothing else.

Mike and Mike is not a bad show. I agree it is not very in depth but at least they are not completely taken away with themselves.

I find it difficult to listen to the Herd because he is so taken away with himself. Plus I hate his voice.

All of these sports talk show hosts are too football centric. And they can kill a ridiculous topic to death like will the Knicks get the top pick and who do they pick. Oh my God that was awful.
I am not much of a hockey fan but I enjoyed listening to some hockey talk. The incessant football, NBA and baseball talk is hard to take at times. I would love to hear more college basketball and soccer (Futbol). The Champion League Final between Barcelona and Juventus is being played this weekend. I would like to hear a little analysis of the game. But none of these guys care about the world's most popular game.

Only part of this realm of entertainment I like are ATH & PTI. Both shows are generally light and humorous, and can quickly update me on whats going on in sports, since i really only follow college bball regularly. I DVR them occasionally, and i can just skip the football nonsense or whatever else I don't care about.

Kay and his side kicks are at least respectful to most of their callers. I can't listen to Carton for more than a minute: he seems to be yelling most of the time. Joe and Evan are OK. I wonder if we have just overdosed on the entire "genre."

I worked at CBS Radio for a few years. I'm still in radio now. I've heard nothing but nice things about Kay, Joe & Evan over the years. And I've said on here many times how despised Francesca is across the industry, by those who have had the unpleasantness of working with him to management to pretty much anyone. Bad guy all around.

I don't live in NJ anymore and haven't for a number of years. Does the Steve Van Pelt-Russillo show on ESPN radio air up there? Hasn't been mentioned which makes me think it's not aired there, although the ESPN2 telecast would have to be. It's by far my favorite listen, although the duo is breaking up shortly due to SVP's new midnight ESPn TV show.

I absolutely agree. To me they are totally unlistenable.

Tom K
Agree. And yet they're bringing in more revenue than francesa? Idk anything about radio economics, but that is incredible if true. I guess morning shows capture more commuting time than a show that ends at 6:20 p.m. but still hard to believe.

They both seem to have a decent amount of professional sports knowledge but they continue to try to create this shock jock image for their show. At least they were recently when I made the unfortunate decision to tune in. And that "helloooooo" schtick between them and their callers is about as unfunny and annoying as anything I've heard on the radio. Hopefully they've retired that at least.

Worst sports talk host ever: John Sterling during his WMCA days. His usual response when he disagreed with a caller was to calmly say, "You sir, are a jerk." He would flirt with female callers and instantly hang up on kids. Then there were the many times when he would completely lose his head during an argument with a caller. I remember how my dad used to turn to me and say, "That guy's a hothead, huh?" Sterling would also spend a lot of time talking about his "good friend" Kevin Loughery. He was hysterically funny for all the wrong reasons.

He was just as bad as a play-by-play guy, as anyone who remembers his days calling New York Raiders hockey and Nets basketball might agree. Sterling would often run out of breath due to his inability to keep up with the fast pace in hockey, where his "Raider goal! Raider goal! Raider goal!" call was contrived and pathetic (just like his home-run call is now). Then there were his basketball observations, such as the time he matter-of-factly told sidekick Mike DiTomasso, "Mike, Bubbles Hawkins has a chance to be a superstar in this league." The Nets wound up releasing Hawkins at season's end (many years later Hawkins was found dead in a crack house).

Sterling has since completed the play-by-play trifecta by also being terrible at baseball. It's a shame that a proud franchise like the Yankees have settled for the likes of him in the radio booth. Compared to Sterling, today's obnoxious sports talk hosts are a breath of fresh air.

Glad you like Colin. He is an acquired taste, just like the whole lot of them. Give me Bill Mazur any day of the week. Dating myself there
