Re-assessing the roster

You are making my point.
We played great against Nova in first half with a spectacular offensive performance of Wusu leading the way.

Wusu and the team could not sustain it in the second half and we went on to lose because Dixon is unstoppable and we could not finish plays on offense

Yes, we are 2-16. We are not good.
We are playing better basketball. All these things can be true.
Yes instead of getting blown out by Monmouth or Butler or DePaul we’re losing more competitively the last 3 games after getting waxed by 24 at Marquette. But this improvement is still not good enough to actually win BE games. We’re still losing, giving away games. This team will not grow from here without major improvements to the roster. Bottom line is if we have the money Sha will upgrade the roster. He’s not rolling it back like this. There are roles for Dual and others in there somewhere.

If I had a choice, knowing it’s SHU and we’re money strapped, as of today my wish list for a balance of new talent/continuity would be:

Starters
New PG
New 2G
Coleman
New PF
Godswill

Bench
Dual
Felton
Middleton
Aligbe
Mid-Major 2G
Freshman
Freshman
Gus

After tonight I think we'll have a better idea if Godswill deserves that starting role next year. No doubt he's our most improved player.

Really tough matchup for Godswill the next 2 Games -- would like to see him be more physical but know he will hustle

Godswill has been playing better but I have watched a ton of college hoops and from my perspective he is undersized as is the whole SHU front court. Maybe if you added a stud power forward with size you could get away with Godswill at the 5 spot but do you really see that happening? I don't.

Just look at some of the top teams and the front courts they have. Most start with a 7 footer at the 5 spot. Michigan starts 2 7 footers. and if the top teams don't have 7 footers they are a tad smaller but big wide bodies.

Sorry but if we go into next year with Godswill at the 5 spot and don't beef up the front court bigly we are doomed for another bad season.

Sure the back court needs help but the problems are deeper than that.

Our team is offensively challenged because it cannot shoot. It impacts assists. Your saying he doesn't get in the lane when teams simply pack the lane because we cannot shoot the 3 well. To blame Dual for the many offensive deficiencies of the roster really makes no sense. The drop-off from Dual to Felton makes most games unwinnable for us.

With all that being said, Dual does get in the lane all the time. He is not proficient in finishing as he needs greater strength to absorb contact.

With all THAT being said, he had 5 true assists against a very good St John's defense. How many "hockey" assists did he have as well? Seems fairly productive in the assists category. Like this one:

Or maybe the one around 25:10 seconds of this linked video where he goes by Luis and gets into the lane for an alley oop to Godswill.

You think Dual had a good game against SJU?

I think Dual played well in spurts. He cannot finish at the rim right now. He was far from our problem during the St John's game.

5 assists
2 turnovers
1 block

When he left game and Felton came in, drop off was huge.

He needs to create shots for himself. He cannot play that many minutes and take a few shots.

Needs to rebound more

I think that's fair. In 28 minutes, he had 1 point, 1 rebound and fouled out -- those are the negatives not specifically mentioned. He only took 2 shots, so finishing at the rim wasn't a huge issue, because he really didn't try much to finish at the rim, in a game where our best success was DAW doing that. My biggest critique of him is that it's so much dribbling around outside the 3-point circle with nothing accomplished.

I'm not so focused on the drop off to Felton as a measure of how Dual plays because Felton wouldn't be playing at all on most all other BE teams.
